On Channel 4 now or C4+1 in a few minutes which I'm going to watch, is the first of three head to head live debates between presidential candidates Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump... Summary: The first debate between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton has begun The first subject is the economy, with Mr Trump saying jobs are "fleeing the country" The 90-minute duel in New York could be the most watched debate in television history, with 100 million viewers Polls suggest the race has tightened in the past few weeks, with Clinton holding a narrow lead Edited by Mobson, Sep 27 2016, 01:56 AM.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American people, they voted Bush in twice. Trump is about as mad a choice of president as could be imagined, how did he even get this far? The interesting thing is that Bernie Sanders was generally considered less 'electable' than Trump. |

I have met Trump...years ago in the bar of the Plaza Hotel in New York...I wrote about it here...he is an odious freak of a man...god help America and the rest of the world should that man succeed in his ridiculous quest to become their 58th president! I find it exceedingly depressing that in a major country in this world of ours, the only two people who feel they are suitable candidates for the top job, after being elected by their respective parties, are the wife of a former president who undoubtedly got away lightly after certain misdemeanours without impeachment during office, and a loathsome bigot who demonstrates more and more sociopathic tendencies as the presidential campaign proceeds! For the sake of my sanity, I'm keeping well away from the live debates between these two Unfortunates, especially after the reportage of those disparaging remarks Trump made (11 years ago but so what), which have since been played down by that utter twat Nigel Farage as being "no more than alpha male boasting"... I heard someone say on the radio recently that most people's response to the situation is Syria is despair and disbelief. I think the same applies to the US Presidential election. |

I'm reminded of John Gay's self-composed epitaph: Life is a jest, and all things show it; I thought so once, but now I know it. |

On another board someone wrote: To think back on this book [a novel by a black woman about the day-to-day racism encountered] today, following an election result that feels simultaneously all too predictable and utterly unbelievable, to think of the current President, the embodiment of human dignity, having to cede power to an unprincipled opportunist with the backing of the Ku Klux Klan, is almost too much to bear. This sums up my attitude exactly. I woke up in the night and spent the next hour in despair about it. Edited by Caro, Nov 9 2016, 09:39 PM.

The day after yesterday...Canadians pledge their own wall to block Trump-fleeing US liberals...tweeting yes Canada is gonna build a wall and make Florida pay for it. #Canada #florida #electionday BBC News tells us that Anti-Trump protests are sweeping US cities...burning effigies and chanting "Not My President" or carrying large placards saying Trump is NOT My President ... similar to the protests we made after Brexit... Something that caught my eye in the film world was Aaron Sorkin's letter to his daughter exclusively published in US Vanity Fair ....as the mastermind behind the long running West Wing...and screenwriter of The Social Network, this is a man who knows of what he speaks...and writes...it's a good read if nothing else! http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/11/aaron-sorkin-donald-trump-president-letter-daughter Edited by Mobson, Nov 10 2016, 12:00 PM.

Maybe this survivor's guide can help some who are thunderstruck after yesterday's US Presidential elections in the same way as the UK's vote for Brexit stunned those British voters who could not imagine a future outside the European Union... Survival tips Read around and try to understand why other people voted differently Focus on how much you love your friends and family Work hard and travel Break out of the "echo chamber" and engage in dialogue with people whose opinions differ Question your own views - and accept that you may not actually know best Acknowledge that the problem is beyond your control Do whatever relaxes you... There, I hope that helps, just a little |

Here's a song to help keep things in perspective... Well, I’ve had a few adventures and I’ve seen a lot of things And I’ve learnt a lot of stuff I never knew And I’ve changed my mind a thousand times and I’ve questioned what’s inside And I’ve seen it from a different point of view I've felt like I'm on top of the world, like nothing's gonna bring me down; I've been consumed by the greatest fear and guilt and shame; Yet fundamentally, oh fundamentally, tell me fundamentally What's really changed? There's still the summer rains and the winter snows The side of the road where the grass still grows The sun still shines and the wind still blows And the world’s still a-turning around Well I’ve had a few successes and I’ve reached a lot of goals And I’ve lived some of those dreams I used to dream And I’ve tried and failed a thousand times, been a-crying out in despair And I’ve seen that things aren’t always what they seem I’ve been surrounded by the ones I love and I’ve spent some time alone Well, I’ve lost some things and other things I’ve gained But fundamentally, oh fundamentally, tell me fundamentally What's really changed? There's still the big full moon all glowy white The stars that come out in the dead of night The sky’s still pink in the morning light And the world’s still a-turning around Well, I still feel low and I still feel high There’s still the salt in my tears when I start to cry I still don’t know and I still ask why And the world’s still a-turning around Yes, fundamentally what’s really changed? Grace-2 |
