At the time of this post, the 45th president of the United States will be sworn in on 20th January 2017 that is ...

Days Hrs Mins Secs

Amidst the controversy over various issues with Russia like US election fixing, sanctions, prostitutes and the rest of the world, the mocking of a disabled journalist in 2015 which reemerged & took centre stage at a Hollywood award ceremony last weekend in a speech by Meryl Streep "a third rate actress" according to Trump, the big question leading up to next Friday's big day for Trump is who is going to perform at his inauguration.

The event has previously drawn a host of celebrities, with A-List figures usually waiving their six-figure fees for appearing. Beyonce performed at an inaugural ball in 2009 for Barack Obama and sang the national anthem for him four years later.

Well, lets see who will be there, for sure not one of the world's best selling artists & America's fav singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen...the best on offer is a Bruce Springsteen tribute band who will perform his music in his stead; no Elton John who's always a good belter outer of an anthem; Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli has distanced himself from the festivities as has Celine Dion. Welsh singer Charlotte Church publicly hit out on Twitter to Trump "Your staff have asked me to sing at your inauguration, a simple Internet search would show I think you're a tyrant. Bye". MOBY wrote... “I guess I’d D.J. at an inaugural ball if as payment #trump released his tax returns,” the American musician wrote on Instagram. He added that if he did accept his offer to perform, he would play “Public Enemy and Stockhausen remixes.” ICE T, rapper and current star of “Law & Order: SVU” wrote on Twitter that he was asked to perform: “I didn’t pick up and Blocked the number.”

So poor 'The Donald' seems to have been struggling to lure any major names to his inauguration which he insisted this week would be “elegant” and “very special” until yesterday...when he announced an appearance by the leading country artist Toby Keith (sorry never heard of him, has anyone?). Trump also unveiled the southern rock band 3 Doors Down and singer Jennifer Holliday who will perform, like Keith, the day before the inauguration at the welcome celebration on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

They will join the only artist who agreed to announce her association with the inauguration before Friday – a teenage singer booked to sing the national anthem next Friday who launched a successful career after appearing on the reality TV competition America’s Got Talent. Jackie Evancho, 16, has a bright future but perhaps lacks the name recognition of predecessors such as Ricky Martin and Jessica Simpson, who performed for George W Bush in 2001.

Meanwhile the security issue remains a concern...

“Security is my greatest concern,” Republican Senator Roy Blunt, chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, has said. “No question that on inaugural day, this would be the most appealing target in the world.” ...one can only dream!!! <cool>

...& now The B Street Band is backing down! After catching flak for their booking at the Garden State Inaugural Gala, the elite Bruce Springsteen cover band is bailing on the DT's inauguration festivity... a statement refers to the group's ultimate deference to their progenitor "Our decision is based SOLELY on the respect and gratitude we have for Bruce and the E Street Band. Bruce’s music has been the foundation of our livelihood. The B Street Band would not exist without the talents of Bruce and our E Street brothers. We are most grateful to these rock legends and look forward to many more years of emulating and performing the Forever Music, of Bruce Springsteen....Way to go Donald - What about Mrs T doing a number! <cool>

Caro

My friend visiting here yesterday asked if I was going to watch it. I could only stare at her in disbelief. I leave the room (a difficult thing to do when it takes so much effort now) when Trump comes on the television. She wasn't sure if she would either. I don't think I even watched Obama's inauguration - I am not fond of these large-scale events - don't watch the Emmys or Oscars or the British equivalents, or Last Night at the Proms (though that is more because my husband doesn't want to watch that). Do watch the sporting events though, but find long tennis matches a bit tiresome, and prefer three setters to five. Who has got time to sit and watch five sets of tennis?

I heard most of it on the radio, but it's what happens next that's important - and lord knows what that will be.

I hope you've bought her latest album, Mobs - or at least had a listen.

I'm with you there , Caro; when one is an octogenarian, one has seen it all, done it all and worn out the T-shirt

I watched it...I don't think I've ever watched one live before...the problem was I was forced to channel hop trying to avoid all the chronic crass reporting....Sky news anchor Kay Burley decided to report 'down with the people' which was frightening at times, not sure where her co-presenter Adam Boulting was hanging out; BBC1 led with their World news anchor Katty Kay, the loud blonde, assisted by Jon Sopel, currently the Beeb's N. American Editor and Carlos Watson, founder of OZY Media, a Republican "not particularly a supporter of Donald Trump I have to say" said KK when introducing him off camera as it seems KK only had the spotlight!. Through the lead up to the ceremony, KK kept annoyingly interrupting these poor men's conversations mid-stream saying "lets just look take a moment to look at this"...in other words 'shut up' and then went on to describe a scene we could all see...so thank goodness for BBC Parliament who just ran C-Scan's live coverage sans commentary...because to be honest words for this event were just not necessary! <erm>

I attended the Women's March in London on Saturday...'100,000' marched from the US embassy in Grosvenor Sq in Mayfair starting off at midday for Trafalgar Sq...many bore placards highlighting Trump's misogynistic comments, allegations of racism or his refutation of climate change, all were in very good humour, chanting "Trump Out"...BUT it was not just about the new president of the US...

"The Women's March on London is a women-led movement bringing together people of all genders, ages, races, cultures, political affiliations and backgrounds on January 21, 2017, to affirm our shared humanity and pronounce our bold message of resistance and self-determination. Recognizing that women have intersecting identities and are therefore impacted by a multitude of social justice and human rights issues. With great thanks to our friends marching in Washington who have shared their guiding principles with us, we have outlined a representative vision for a UK government that is based on the principles of liberty and justice for all. "

The official rally held in Traf Sq was hosted by Danish comedian Sandy Toksvig and attended by London Mayor Sadiq Khan...songs, speeches by various speakers, and lastly a poem written by a french woman whose friend had been killed in the Paris terrorist bomb incident whilst attending a music concert, was read by a little girl...it ended at 3.15, about fifteen minutes earlier than scheduled for some reason while people were still marching to reach the square for ages after.
