Yippee! It's Cowboys and Farmgirls being let loose in the Royal Albert Hall tonight as the John Wilson Orchestra transports us to the Great American Plains in Oklahoma, Rodgers and Hammerstein's first ever musical which was an instant hit when it premiered on Broadway in 1943. It's chock full of toe-tapping classics including Oh What a Beautiful Mornin', People Will Say We're in Love and of course the title song itself, lasting a full 2 hours, 45 minutes.

With a stellar cast, sensational dance numbers and the unique energy of the John Wilson Orchestra, it sounds like the magic of the original lives on in 2017...and we can see for ourselves as its being shown live on BBC4 at 8pm.

Post script: Well, it was a really enjoyable production...excellent interpretation of the familiar songs, full of toe-tapping classics, sensational dance numbers...I particularly enjoyed the character called Will Parker who on his first appearance sang about Kansas City and then tap danced his little black boots off with the ensemble joining in...it's 20mins on i-player...thoroughly recommend watching the dance routine, it's highly infectious!!! I haven't stopped humming the song since I watched it on Friday!

available via BBC i-player for 29 days ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b090ftl8/bbc-proms-2017-oklahoma
