There's so much activity this weekend across the board, Tennis, F1, and of course Glastonbury that the Beeb are gonna be stretched and surely won't be able to please everyone with it's programme selection....thank goodness for BBC3 and 4 to help with the overspill! I thought I heard me old mate Bono is going to be playing tonight and see from your link that he is....Bless! Also Eels, like them in a weird sort of way....have 2 of their c.d's but never play them!

Often in the past, I've enjoyed catching acts totally new to me and I hope this year that will continue...enjoy the accoustic sessions too; last year a wonderful rendition of Radiohead's 'creep' on female vocal, double bass and guitar, that still lingers in my mind....just can't find who the girl was.....

I have never been a fan U2...after saying that I like some of their songs but have never understood how huge they are but I'm sure they have fans who would wonder at my taste in music :P ..might be worth a look though

I can't help you with the name of the person who sang Creep,Mobs ..I've tried Googling it but come up with nothing.

Like you I find it's nice to listen to groups/people I have never heard of to be pleasantly surprised...

I wasn't a U2 fan until I met him! I'll tell you the story sometime...but believe me because I didn't listen to their work, when I went out to dinner with him and his wife, I was completely non plus about his fame - despite people coming up and asking for his autograph and the papparazzi waiting outside the Ivy restaurant - we went out the back way! When I went over to Dublin, he was the perfect host and made the trip really special....so for those memories I'm a fan...like the slow tunes better, the one he's singing right now
....Oh and "I still haven't found what I'm looking for"....Not Jerusalem....OMG!!! Come on...you're Irish Bono!!!!and you're not at the Proms!!!!

On Creeps: I sent a an email to Jo Whiley soon after the concert but didn't get a reply - went through all the sets featured @ G on the internet - nothing....thought it might have been Ellie Golding but not sure...

They are HUGE but I've never seen it myself that's not to say Bono isn't a decent person..... it's nice to hear from somebody first hand that he has a nice manner with him....please tell me he took those glasses off whilst he ate....

Zane Lowe said after that they played some risky tunes ....they should have left Jerusalem well alone that's for sure.....they were on for nearly 2 hours!!

I caught some of Two Door Camera Club's set earlier on in the evening ..liked the sound of them...and Primal Scream are sounding good.....nice and solid.

That 'expert' gets everywhere... :P

A couple of songs from Glastonbury that make it nigh on impossible to keep those toes from tapping

Chase & Status

And Cee Lo Green

Hi becky, in the absence of dear Rumbaba who would talk your socks off musically, I popped in and out of Glastonbury yesterday whilst watching the tennis.

Caught the beautiful Jesse J, a young bundle of bright joy and energy, despite her unfortunate foot injury when she mashed all the tendons in her right foot falling from a stage platform during rehearsals at Wembley on 11th June, then discovered she had broken 2 bones too! Ever since seeing her accoustic performance of Price Tag on Jools Holland, I really like her voice, her look and her attitude...so refreshing to see a success, after the letdown of an artist like Amy Whitehouse, who has yet again failed to beat her demons and had to postpone her european tour - poor girl has just let everything get to her big time. Still, have her double album "Back to Black" to remember her short success to date. Sitting on her throne, Jesse was such fun and really pulled the crowd in...especially the little girl selected at random from the audience who was incredibly natural and knew all the song's cadences...a 7 year old, whose life will never be the same again!

The Spirit of '71 piece was interesting; the interview with Andrew Kerr, creator of the first festival; Melanie and the poignant accoustic performance of Noel Harrison's Windmills of Your Mind all brought back memories. Close your eyes and he sounds pretty much the same....

Caught the interview with Guy Garvey of Elbow talking about playing 'Weather to Fly' and having to rush off after G to play in Luxembourg; also the last song of their set...One Day Like This....will watch them on i-player - that's the beauty this year, the selection is extensive on i-player.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/festivals/glastonbury/2011/artists/elbow/#p00hsycc

Later caught some of Coldplay's set...saw them live at Crystal Palace a few years back, 2005 I think, with my daughter; by default really, we were walking by and this guy gave us tickets, yes gave us...not all people are ticket touts! Sitting on the hill, I notice Chris Martin said exactly the same things to last night's audience as he said to us back then! I was one of the first in my crowd to hear Yellow on Parachutes and told everyone about it. Chris Martin's voice sounded a bit strained at times last night, confirmed when he and his drummer, Will Champion, joined Jo W and Mark Radcliffe to discuss the aftermath! He could hardly speak and left the interview before they showed a repeat of Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and the amazing light show on the Pyramid stage.

Today I'm out but look forward to seeing Beyonce.... yes I know, but with that voice and her looks she's very watchable! Only hope she doesn't go for an outfit like
Cee Lo though...is he auditioning for the Red Lantern?!!!

Hi Mobs ..I've just realised you've dropped the 7 from your username...quick eh? ;)

I have thought about Rumbaba missing Glasto and what he would make of it all

Like you I was switching between the tennis and Glasto and must have done it at the same time as I caught the little girl on with Jessie J and heard Mark Radclife saying she had been plucked randomly from the crowd...(hope she is left to get on with her life )also saw that rather lovely live rendition of Windmills of Your Mind and heard Andrew Kerr talking about the FREE festival.....looking on line I see it is £195 for this year's gig.

I remember seeing a picture of Amy Winehouse a good few years ago looking very healthy then not long after one when the drugs had caught hold......I read her management refuse to book anything for her now and she has to get away and get herself right ..I sincerely hope she does so for her own sake...she is a talented woman

It's fashionable in some circles to mock Coldplay but I remember first hearing Trouble and thinking WOW! I loved it!!..Parachutes is a great album. Nice interview with them (Chris and Will) after the set ..made me smile when Chris said (tongue in cheek) that he had asked Bono to have a word with God to ensure good weather for them which reminded me of this I saw on-line

What's the difference between God & Bono? God won't be wandering around Glastonbury festival thinking he's Bono ...

Another WOW is in order for Janelle Monae ..have not seen her before but what a performance she gave!...very attractive girl... great set..Aloe Blacc was looking very cool and sounding good on his set,too...he did an accoustic version of I Need a Dollar later on

Fabulous set for the Chemical Brothers

Beyonce's Crazy in Love was one of the highlight of the Brits a few years ago...love it!...

Hi guys, still in Madrid and missing all the festival stuff on TV .

I like Jessie J and Janelle Monae, seen them both on Jools. I hear Amy Winehouse got booed off stage in Belgrade for being drunk and cancelled the rest of her tour, shame.

I see San Sebastian will be European city of culture in 2016, just announced. It´s raining up noth now but 33 degrees in Madrid. Going to see some Latin Jazz singer tonight at another club. I´ll catch up with you guys on my return to Blighty.

Two years have surely flown by...and reading the back posts on this thread, Amy Winehouse was still with us although clearly in a terrible state in her last performance at Glastonbury but managed to get through it with the help of the Specials ... and yet so is Bruce Forsyth <tiphat> - he's not booked as a compere is he? surely he can't be singing... <yikes>

"If this is the first time you've ever seen the band, do come again alrite" says stick bean Mick.. Well you come again Mick it's only taken 43 years for you to get here.....that's probably because of the strict regulated price system at Glastonbury no matter how big the celeb...and we know how much wonga the Stones wring out of their fans for the privilege of seeing them on stage ...anyway think it's wise they decided to debut at Glastonbury before, well you know <erm>

Only allowing an hour of a 2 hour 15 minute set to be shown on the Beeb in deference to all the paying people of Glastonbury ...fair enough... <cool>

Yesterday saw a one set accoustic by Daughter in the Treehouse, - played today on John Peel stage + on the red button overnight caught Alt-J, Foals -

Enjoyed Portishead's set live on Other stage - around 11pm last night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8W8rfq-IyE

On the Park stage - Solange's 'Locked in Closets' and 'Sandcastle Disco' and her catchy lovelorn single 'Losing You' - two years after her big sister Beyonce closed the festival, Solange Knowles made her Glastonbury debut..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfQf9qDottE

After a day at Wimbledon and a night out on the town - Hawaiian cocktails at Trader Vic's plus dinner at the top of the world, enjoyed this ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TN_iGpRKio

Tomorrow looking out for Rufus Wainwright 2-3pm on Pyramid, Tom Odell on John Peel Stage @ 4.30pm; Laura Mvula Park Stage same time + Bobby Womack on West Holts Stage 21.30pm...

I didn't see as much of Glastonbury as I would have liked, having weekend guests and a party to go to.but one act I was determined to catch up with were The Stones and when I did I loved every minute of their set ...wish we could have seen it in it's entirety but seeing some of it was better than seeing none at all .
Mick Jagger was just fantastic ..what a front man! he's still got the moves.... <magic> I was clapping and smiling throughout. The fifteen year old watching with us thought they were pretty good too. I loved his choice of clothing ESPECIALLY the feathered cape he had on at one stage.

Loved The Arctics,Bobby Womack and Damon Alburn... the prize for the most laid back performance must go to Rodriguez...he ambled through his set whilst telling the occasional joke on the way.... near the end he said that he self medicates and sometimes over prescribes...it showed <wink>

Kenny Rogers was great in the singalong Sunday afternoon slot...he might not be able to hold the notes as long ..well he is 75....but his voice is still a lovely one. I do wish he hadn't bothered with the face lift though ..I always thought what a handsome man he was prior to it .

This was a lovely performance of Emmylou by First Aid Kit.

Well I didn't see that much either in the end missed Wainwright and Womack live but they're on i-player....but I was pretty annoyed when watching Tom Odell's set on the John Peel stage that the Beeb kept putting up huge apology signs right across the screen and cutting the sound while doing so....first one warning about bad language and the second apologising if anyone was offended by the use of same...really disrupted the set...and I told them so <cool>

Johhny Marr at Glastonbury on .... various stuff ......

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/video/2013/jun/29/glastonbury-2013-johnny-marr-video

I'm not keen on festivals, modern music in the daylight, not to mention sunlight! I feel it should live in dark, moody, dank dives with simple lighting and evoke and connect with deepest feelings ..... not on an aircraft hangar stage at a mass-mob picnic with a crowd of thousands!! Then there's all the luxury pre-erected medieval pavilion tents for supermodels in this season's designer wellies .....that's not exactly a counter-culture. <erm>

The original thing imo ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Li7n56uU8 ...... hot and sticky and delirious.

I love Dolly, very talented song writer and performer, shame she went all showbiz but she plays a mean guitar (nails permitting) and her version of 'I will always love you' knocks the overblown Whitney version out of the water. I hope she does a good set at Glastonbury. I have no interest in Metallica or Kasabian

Still in Spain :)

Think you've got your wish Rum...Dolly drew huge crowds to the Pyramid stage for her debut set performing some of her biggest hits as thousands of fans, many wearing blonde wigs with fake balloon boobs, chanted her name for about an hour. She told the Glastonbury crowds that she was a country gal "so this mud ain't nothing new to me"...she had even written a new song for the occasion in the early hours of Sunday morning, prosaically entitled 'Mud' , the chorus of which went "mud, mud, mud, mud, mud."

Fortunately she played her hits too ...leading lusty singalongs of Jolene, Islands in the Stream, Nine to Five and a life enhancing I Wiil Always Love You....

Dolly's not just a pretty face, she played guitar, banjo, melodian, all encrusted with Swarovski diamonds..0h and a saxophone ...before her show she was presented with a special award in recognition of selling more than 100 million records worldwide...it'll hang in her Dollywood museum in Tennessee she said...better than the loo then eh Dolly!
