At the age of 87 Doris Day has released an album of music close to her heart...what a gal... Have always been a fan of the lovely Doris Day...whether it be seeing her on the silver screen or listening to her sing. Doris Day, the sweetheart of 1950s music and film, is launching a musical comeback, nearly 20 years after her last studio album, she tells arts correspondent Rebecca Jones. "I just thought, 'let's do it' and I hope that my fans will enjoy it. And if they don't like it, that's up to them. Everybody has their own ideas. "Whatever will be, will be, it's true." Releasing the album My Heart has been an emotional journey for Day, as many of the tracks were produced by her son Terry Melcher before his death in 2004. "I think that he would just love the idea," she says. "He's there. He's with me. I just feel that he's with me all the time." http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_9565000/9565812.stm |

I remember dusting to Doris! My mother encouraged me to 'do a bit of housework' (perhaps getting me prepared for marriage as was the norm) and I would clean my room to Doris's dulcet tones.. although for her personally, marriage was no joy ride; of her four marriages one beat her, one abandoned her and one stole all her money. Guess my favourite song of hers was "Que sera, sera" and am so glad to hear that she didn't let life beat her!

She was interviewed on Today this morning and was lovelier than ever. She sounds happy and philosophical about past difficulties and she was laughing about Que Sera Sera. It's a nice snippet if it can be found on the programme. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b013851v/Today_18_08_2011/ I wish a list of items and their times could be provided for the programme. It can be hard to find a particular thing. Edited by caissier, Aug 18 2011, 09:38 PM.

My favourite performance of hers was in The Man Who Knew Too Much with James Stewart. She was toned down and acting seriously in a proper drama and in the Hitchcock blonde in a tight 50s suit persona, which I think gave her some gravity.![]() Alfred and Doris in London Edited by caissier, Sep 10 2011, 07:57 PM.

Just to say if you missed Doris Day for some implausible reason, she's being repeated again later this evening on BBC4 from 11.00pm in the exact same programme order as Becky has posted above. Oh! and yes, I liked her performance and her smart tight suit in that film too! ...

She gave a fine performance, in a straight role, playing Ruth Etting in Love Me Or Leave Me co-starring James Gagney. Her performances in the light frothy films she did with Rock Hudson,James Garner and David Niven are a constant delight to me then there are the musicals ..the classic Calamity Jane and The Pajama Game to enjoy ....she was a major talent and an all round star....as Norm said ".they don't make 'em like her any more!" I read on Wiki she was first pick to play Mrs Robinson in The Graduate but turned it down for moral reasons...how true that is I don't know... |

Yes, a real skilled trouper and seems to be an all round good person. Ruth Etting, Becky! ....... Ahhhh! Twiggy chose this by her when on DID in about 1990? ..... very touching and affecting, sweet and sad and a lovely tune. I loved it when I heard it and made sure I recorded it on a cassette. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpU-mcgBJxE .... such a period feel. Edited by caissier, Sep 11 2011, 08:06 PM.

"Young At Heart" with Sinatra is my fav Doris fillum. A surprisingly dark little musical; before it has to cop-out with a happy ending. As Barney Sloan, the grumpy singer-songwriter, one of Sinatra's best performances too. |
