I went with a group of film friends last week to a very hip speak easy which is located on two floors behind an unmarked door in Chinatown...alongside traditional cocktails, there are '24 hour aged' cocktails which are poured from brown medicine bottles...this place has a great art deco interior...it's booking policy is a little bizarre, only 50% bookable, 50% off the street. "If they don't like the look of you, you don't get in" or so I had heard along with other negative vibes about this place, so going there was really the best thing...the cocktails are fantastic as they should be at £10+ per hit. After a Negroni made with lavender infused gin, I tried the Rag Time, which was heady with rye, peychaud's bitters, Aperol and absinthe...but the piece de resistance according to one barman is the Havana, which a friend had already ordered. On a previous visit one friend told of a cocktail called Renaissance, which contained rhubarb and Aperol...Turf War which consists of Aquavit, Maraschino, Orange Bitters, Lillet Blanc and Absinthe. The Experience No 2 mixes basil, lemongrass alongside gin, elderflower and lemon juice. Another friend seemed to love the Old Cuban which had a nice heat from the ginger syrup... Next stop.....The Worship Street Whistling Shop and the wonderful Purl.... <bubbly>

Sounds interesting Mobs. I wonder what Simon Difford makes of it. However, I tend to avoid anywhere with a 'door policy'. I can't bear that sort of nonsense.

It's certainly worth a visit... and it's not so difficult to go if you book! Here are a couple of the best bars in town at the moment!....

Under Libations, the food menu at whistlingshop has a pork cheek hot pot with saute potatoes...are we topical or what! <laugh>
