ODI cricket at Lord's today...TMS commentators have said that at start of play the crowds appear to be late arriving due to the local tube station @ St John's Woods having problems with the escalators...so here's a cocktail to spur the engineers on to fix them! ESCALATOR MARTINI Glass: Martini Garnish: Pear slice on rim Method: SHAKE all ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass. 1 shot Poire William eau de vie ½ shot Zubrówka bison vodka 2 shots Pressed apple juice ⅛ shot Monin Pure Cane sugar syrup (65°brix, 2:1 sugar/water) Comment: This orchard-fresh concoction was originally made with Korte Palinka (Hungarian pear schnapps) if using that or Poire William eau de vie, little or no sugar is necessary. |

This was indeed made originally with Hungarian Korte Palinka, which is just pear schnapps (Vilmos is particulalry good). The sugar quote was Simon Difford covering himself because Korte Palinka is one of his few blind spots, I guess he thought it may be a pear schnapps based liqueur.
