Didn't really see it, rum. We had it on for a while, but I was doing the washing up.

I was up on the Roof with my Lorded neighbours, drinking champers while waiting, then watching then coming down, after the BIG Firework display on the Embankment by the London Eye! (which was pretty spectacular!)... <star> <sf>

.....then had to make hot chocolate for everyone! <bigbarofchocolateforapound?> = <cappucino>

The fireworks were impressive but went on a wee bit too long. Also, who's paying for it? <erm>

There's no such thing as too long as far as fireworks are concerned - for me! They were longer this year and billed as 'marking the start of a unique year for London'...there being an obvious reference to the forthcoming Olympics and Golden Jubilee ...

The uk tax payer via the uk government pays for the firework display via the Mayor of London's budget and to celebrate hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Mayor is to present a packed programme of free events and celebrations to mark
"a summer like no other."

..."a summer like no other."

That’s a suitably vague phrase. The sign of an experienced politico-type.

Days of turgid blandness and unfulfilled expectation are the key indication British Summer has arrived. Intriguing to see how this year will be like no other.

(quick, pop in a Christmas smiley whilst still here... )

I lost interest in the Olympics years ago. If the Olympic ideal ever existed, then it has long gone - lost in the commercialism, politicking and corruption that infects every aspect of it from the top to the bottom. If I thought there would be a net gain to the UK economy, then I might support it for that reason but I would still find the crowds and disruption in London a pain. As it is, it is blowing every budget at every turn and, as a nation, we will be paying for it for decades to come and, to put the tin lid on it, if West Ham move to this stupid ground and keep the running track, then I will be cutting up my club membership card. :(
