"Blubber Soul"

May-Cee

I was recently reading a collection of interviews with, and articles about, The Beatles.
(It's called "Paperback Writer"; a good read.)

(Hence that "sagging off school" Lennon quote that prompted a WOM thread a while back.)

Lennon also calls the mid-60s his "fat Elvis period".

I took hold of "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" (their two greatest albums) and he has a point...

On the covers and the photos that come with the CD booklets... he was a bit chubby-cheeked in those days, wasn't he?
I'd never really noticed that before.

Obviously "Blubber Soul" is a wild, unkind exaggeration; my fondness for punnery getting the better of me there.

And, alas, when he got his cheek bones back, it was more to do with cocaine than a healthy diet.

PS:

I rather glibly called "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" the two greatest; though I'd put in a word for "Abbey Road" as well.
But I was a regular for five years on the old R2 Boards.
The inevitable "What's the best Beatles LP?" teaser made its appearance about three times a month, every month.

Hi May-Cee, is this a 'what's your favoutite Beatles album' thread? If so, I would say 'Revolver' and 'Rubber Soul' are my favourites - the only ones I ever bought.

Don't forget Help! Some absolutely essential Beatles there.

No, Rum, that wasn't exactly the point.
It was just an odd riff I started off on - not really knowing where it would end up!

You're not really saying that "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" are the only Beatles albums you know?!

Nope, but they are the only Beatles albums i ever bought, May-Cee. I've heard 'Abbey Road' and 'Sgt Pepper' and 'The White Album' (which has a fair amount of crap on it) and 'Let it Be' and 'With the Beatles', etc but I never felt the need to buy any other Beatles albums (except Magical Mystery Tour, which was an EP, I think)
