This is dreadful on a number of levels. Coupled with a dirgy tune and syrupy vocal ![]() America - Horse with no name. "I've been through the desert on a horse with no name it felt good to be out of the rain in the desert you can remember your name (but presumably not the horse's) cos there ain't no one for to give you no pain" |

On the radio the other day they played Classic by Adrian Gurvitz...now I'll be the first to say the lyrics weren't the best ... Got to write a classic Got to write it in an attic Babe, I'm an addict now An addict for your love I was a stray boy And you was my best toy..... ...but I feel the song was much maligned and continues to be.... I liked it ..

Further lyrics from Horse With No Name "There were plants And birds And rocks And things" (well there would be things wouldn't there) Shakira's Whenever, Wherever contains "Lucky that my breasts Are small and humble So you don't confuse Them with mountains" Snap's Rhythm Is A Dancer has a line "I'm as serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer" The Killers Human has a chorus "Are we human or are we dancers? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancers?" |

I offer a 'free' holiday in France if there has ever been a song, with worse lyrics and overall 'badness' than Jimmy Osmond's "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool", that spent more than 5 weeks at 'number one' in the UK charts.... |

At the risk of sounding very pedantic. I think the the line is: "Are we human or are we dancer?" (singular), which adds to its crapness ![]() "Seeking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job" Really, what other kind of wages would you be seeking if you were looking for a job? ![]() Actually this takes me into 'kiss the sky' territory. 'but I get no offers, just a come-on from the horse on 7th Avenue' |

I remember at the time it was released that line was seized upon pretty quickly.. An explanation for it from Wiki There remains confusion and debate over the line "Are we human, or are we dancer?" in the song's chorus due to its grammar.Debate raged across the Internet over whether the lyrics said "dancer" or "denser", a misunderstanding which invoked conflicting interpretations of the song's meaning. On the band's official website, the biography section states that Flowers is singing "Are we human, or are we dancer?" and also says that the lyrics were inspired by a disparaging comment made by Hunter S. Thompson, where he stated America was raising "a generation of dancers" In an interview with Rolling Stone, Flowers said that he was irritated over the confusion about the lyrics and also that fans were unhappy with the song's dance beat: "It's supposed to be a dance song, [the beat] goes with the chorus...If you can't put that together, you're an idiot. I just don't get why there's a confusion about it." |

At the risk of sounding very pedantic. I think the the line is: "Asking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job" I thought it had been established that many people have no job because they aren't prepared to work for workman's wages. Great song, anyway. Lie-la-lie Lie-la-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie Lie-la-lie Lie-la-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie... |

Sorry, W4T, I should check the exact wording before I post ![]() 'Asking only supervisor's wages, I come looking for a job' I posted this on the 'doggerel thread Tick, you may not have seen it. In a clearing stands a boxer, a confused and nervous dog not that you can see him, or the clearing, due to fog. The horse on 7th Avenue, a wild and frisky mare, had an old and scratchy blanket so he took some Comfort there. Edited by rumbaba, Feb 10 2012, 02:51 PM.

Well, rum, it's probably best to avoid misquoting a lyric in a post in which you point out that someone else has done a similar thing. Yes, I saw your boxer doggerel: very good. |
