Happy Valentine's Day! This is what Rum's fav mixologists, Difford's say as preamble to their Valentine Day offering.... "A day for hearts, flowers, under-ripe strawberries, cheap chocolates, vile cards and nauseating soft toys, and merry bloody hell in restaurants, as couples who stay home the rest of the year decide to make this their one big night out and demonstrate their social savvy by bitching at their waitstaff...As anyone who has ever worked in the service industry on his saint's day can well understand, the original Saint Valentine was a martyr who underwent hideous tortures, and had nothing to do with love, or large padded cards, in the slightest. Spare a thought in particular for Malaysian Muslims today. Last February 14th saw the religious police rounding up unmarried couples who had dared to share a hotel room. We are having a quiet night tonight, and enjoying a remarkably adult strawberry cocktail, the Bourbon Blush." "BOURBON BLUSH" Glass:Martini Garnish:Strawberry on rim Method:MUDDLE strawberries in base of shaker. Add other ingredients, SHAKE with ice and fine strain into chilled glass. 3 fresh Strawberries (hulled) 2 shots Maker's Mark bourbon ¾ shot Crème de framboise liqueur ¼shot Maple syrup Comment: Strawberry and maple syrup combine brilliantly with bourbon in this drink. or there is this .... LOVE DART Ingredients 10ml/½fl oz fresh lemon juice 25ml/1fl oz pomegranate juice 35ml/1¼fl oz chilled chocolate raspberry vodka pink champagne rose water, to spray the champagne glass chocolate hearts, to serve Preparation method Place the lemon juice, pomegranate juice and vodka into a mixing glass. Add a handful of ice and stir until well combined. Strain into a champagne glass that has been sprayed with rose water, top with pink champagne and serve with chocolate hearts. Simon Difford is having a laugh with 'Love Dart', I think. That may be too much, even for your cocktail cabinet, Mobs ![]() I don't have strawberries or maple syrup. However, I see the #9 edition of the very classy, hardcover Difford Guide is in the shops now: the Escalator is still there and is still So it could be an Escalator Martini to start tonight

We had some Chapel Down English fizz from Tenterden http://www.englishwinesgroup.com/ Local for me and very good. Better than a lot of the 'authentic' Champagnes being knocked out cheap by supermarkets.

Nah! Louise is clinging on in there till the end - which the production company that makes the programme for the Beeb has confirmed will be in March.... Yeah we talked about English fizz way back on Hyper's board - I've visited Chapel Down and remember that their wines tasted pretty dam good.....
