I have made a few changes with the aim of making things simpler but also offering sections to allow a slightly fuller range of immediately visible posts - adding a special current affairs topic - in an effort to minimize posts being buried. Hope this is ok ..... please say what you think. Unfortunately it means a slightly more cluttered overall appearance but it I hope this is acceptable. Edited by caissier, Feb 22 2012, 05:55 AM.

Good to see you are still here improving the site Caissier. The changes look fine; and I am pleased to see Science is still prominent with the Archers subsumed. Current Affairs is a good addition. I cannot see ‘History’ anymore; perhaps it can become a sub-forum of ‘Current Affairs’? This would literally be a correct approach and it will be amusing to see at which stage a ‘current’ event becomes ‘history’ The only obvious improvement would be a site introduction to (potential) newcomers. A way to achieve this is to rename ‘Forum - discussion and information’ to ‘Start Here - information about this Forum’. And then pin the first post to give a brief explanation of why this discussion board is here. Subsequent posts will have the newest at the top, with information on any changes or other important forum related items. It is not important, but why are there two pages both titled ‘Radio4forum’ at the top left? One goes to …/Radio4forum/index/ and the other to …/Radio4forum/forum/3660153/ yet both seem to provide the same content. It’s only my tecchi-demon’s curtiosity .Anyway, the first category (top-left-most post) could be a ‘Start Here - information about this Forum’. This will help newcomers, explain the purpose and perhaps some basic navigation information. |

I think that's a good idea. The 'start' page should be like a preface to a book, not the opening chapter.

"Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history" Should history be a ‘sub-category’ of ‘current affairs’? Then we can move all the posts older than a year into there. __________________ There is a ‘search’ facility’ which gives the Boys over at: Ooh - Click me... |

Caissier do you think it's a good idea to make History a sub-forum of say Current affairs? otherwise it just gets lost in General Discussion...... |

I didn't mean will you get to see it cos you're dead! I meant because of the way things sometimes get lost in the mix on the forum, will you find it!!!!

Hi Mobs ..... ok, can do! ..... I just thought it was a personal enthusiasm of mine I was imposing on everybody so removed it to de-clutter. There are a few things 'to do' and it's getting round to doing them. I rather impulsively emptied a lot of my Favourites into the Links section as a This is me, for better or worse , gesture. Originally I thought it might be good to have it as a kind of reference library of interesting things everybody/anybody had come across and could contribute for others to dip into with a quick click. There is no limit to capacity so it seemed something rather suitable to do on the internet. Thanks for your kind words, Norm ....... much appreciated ........

Thanks Caissier - I like your cautious approach to making changes - it is SO refreshing after our past experiences...shall I leave it at that! Haven't had a chance to look at your 'Favourites' yet as my father's been back in hospital again this week, however, good news is he can come home later today so will have a good read of them over the weekend! Love this! - just look at how much red there is in our union flag

I've got an idea about the Television sub-forum - why not make that somewhere for posting news about a new series or one in the pipeline, or an old favourite returning or ideas for television series....I've got quite a few of things to put there already!.....just a thought! |
