Does anyone remember the BBC 2 late night forerunner to 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' called 'Disco Two'? Presented by Tommy Vance, I think. It had nothing to do with 'disco' . Probably some pipe smoking BBC producer in a tweed jacket who knew nothing about contemporary music thought it was a good idea <erm> It's only a vague memory, I would have been 16/17 at that time.

According to wiki:

Quote:

The Old Grey Whistle Test ... was an influential BBC2 television music show that ran from 1971 to 1987. It took over the BBC2 late night slot from "Disco Two", which had been running since January 1970, while continuing to feature non-chart music.

I didn't have much access to a TV in 1970-71 so that might explain why I don't remember it.

I've been without a telly for times too so certain well-known things are strangers to me. I think I was cut off from music for periods as well. I completely missed The Smiths and Nirvana ......

The Smiths passed me by and I had only a nodding aquaintance with Nirvana. I never really embraced punk either although I liked the 'New Wave' stuff like Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Ian Dury. I was too young to be hippy and too old to be a punk. :(
