I was shocked and saddened to hear this news earlier in the evening ... listening to their music or watching footage of their TV series always made me feel happy ...they were a feel-good group and Davy, with his impish face, will be missed.

Yes, fond memories of a time of greater innocence and simpler pleasures.

I was a huge fan at the begining, I heard 'I'm a believer' on the radio and thought it was fabulous. I didn't realise they weren't a real band. A good song from Neil Diamond. Carol King and John D Loudermilk wrote stuff for them too. I wasn't really a fan of the TV programme.

I remember an interview with Mike Nesmith, years later, when he was a respected songwriter and performer, he was asked if if was embarassing to be associated with The Monkees. He said 'Listen, Stephen Stills was at the same audition as me, the difference between us is that I got the part'.

As a tribute, R2 are repeating on Thurs night (10pm) a Mark Radcliffe documentary about The Monkees.

(By the way, Rum, one of your faves, Dr John, is interviewed on "Front Row" on Weds evening.)
