There is a story going around, that a BBC disc jockey was halfway through his programme, when he got news on his earpiece from his producer, that Fred Astaire had died and that a suitable tribute should be played in Fred's honour. The DJ asked his Gofer to get a selection of Fred's recordings from the library so that he could chose a suitable one. The Gofer came back with his selection and unthinkingly, the DJ picked "Cheek To Cheek" one of Fred's best. Well, we all know the first line of that song, don't we ? .........................Heaven, I'm in Heaven ! ! ! Edited by Norm Deplume, Mar 17 2012, 02:37 PM.

The story I heard was a Radio Forth DJ, and it was when Bing Crosby died. It came up when my journalist friend announced he was going to Abu Dhabi to work. I made the 'sheik to sheik' joke and he came back with the BC story. |
