If I was the same age I was now when setting up that Radio 4 forum, I would still be in the forum business. Mucking around with a internet forum is pointless. Having good members is more important to any forum <cheers!>

As this thread is as pointless as any you have submitted in the past, obviously not. Maybe when you have genuinely got over this obsession with harking back to your inane behaviour as a site owner...

I've located the faulty wiring in the device's logic board assembly, Cap'n, but I'm afraid it's totally beyond repair. <pres>
I might be able to bypass it by means of a bicycle clip and a rubber band.

Saying that if I didn't edit users posts and being annoying on that other forum, I think the site would still exist with happy users from Radio 4 and Asian Network forums. But that was not to be because of my mistakes <ninja>

The theme you are using is the starter theme for any zeta-boards forums, People do different themes to make there zetaboards different from the opposition. I'm hoping to not to do any common grammar mistakes too:

http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/it-strategy/2006/06/06/10-flagrant-grammar-mistakes-that-make-you-look-stupid-39273376/

Why ask me for a blue days theme when there is enough choice on this page?

Emailheaven/Hyperstar was responsible for the disintegration of the Radio 4 messageboard membership - a pretty big international-scale achievment and crime which I find hard to forget. A lot of people I had become fond of have drifted away and I miss them. It would be good if they were here now that things can be freer and easier. I'm not going to let him mess things up again in any way. I'd be very sorry if anybody left as happened before. I think we have an oasis of pleasant internet contact, free of the nastiness found elsewhere but also of the kind of arch cold tone of remoteness which is very common - pithy put downs, snide asides .... all that. I've banned a few trolls immediately they have appeared. Anyway, I don't want to be nasty to emailheaven either (or anybody else) as long as politeness is maintained. He has some technical know-how so I thought, as a kind of reparation, I'd ask him for some advice. I think he has learnt his lesson (hope so!) but I'd never let anybody cause any havoc that would make anyone leave. That said whatever is the general view of members decides things.

(Unfortunately I have some distractions going on and don't do all I think I ought to be doing, so I do apologise for that. I hope everybody can keep on chatting nevertheless.)

<ok> ..... as they say <wink>

I appreciate all that you say but you, no we, are dealing with a loose canon here, who has just posted an totally irrelevant comment in MC 'One Liners' and earlier this afternoon created the most inept game thread "Best Grammar sentences".....which if you read the posts have nothing to do with 'said game'!!! Posting inane cricket comments in the tennis thread, and generally making a nuisance in posts elsewhere is not really that clever or funny....we have been here before; perhaps he will get bored with 'playing' with us, for that is what it is, and bugger off from whence he came....that's my opinion anyway. <steam>

Chris .... regarding the themes ........ There is a zetaboard cultish World of Themes i.e. colour schemes and design styles, created like artworks by enthusiasts who, presumably, have the coding knowledge, which can be 'lifted' for a messageboard. They are individually optional via a control thing at the bottom of the page - so you can choose from a few, which ever you prefer. Almost all (imo!) are lurid or wrong somehow., apart from 'Blue Days' which seems to me to be modest but clear, unshowy, and crucially doesn't have the orange ..... which I feel is rather hard to read and unhelpfully, is used for listed thread titles viewed when you open up the Topics - such as Choice is Yours etc, It's just about trying to improve legibility. Blue Days was the default theme on the Hyperstar forum and I did think it looked good.

I've tried working it out myself but haven't been able to understand the jargon. There is a lot of trial and error in finding out how to get things to work. You'd think they'd make it clear and obvious ..... but THEY DON'T !! <steam> ......... <erm>

Yes ..... noted, Mobs ..... fair enough

I'd like to talk directly to emailheaven about it but he will not use pms.

I hadn't noticed the things you mention. I agree he is a worrying and potentially disruptive presence, given past form. It is very easy to disrupt a messageboard.

I'll resolve it.

A chance? Haven't we done that? Using the sympathy vote as he does, how many times do we here have to read that he would do things differently and yet he still behaves in the same way! He's a player Rum and you know it, we all know it; basically he upsets the balance and timbre of this forum. I am not happy that he does, and I would like to believe that Caissier will resolve this situation as he has said he will before things get out of hand....again.

Enough already! Like a load of bickering old wimmin! <steam>

Caissier - I remain concerned that you are the only person with administrative control over these boards. I suggest you allow two other people controlled access to administer these boards. Stuff happens! <yikes> And it will be sad if suddenly nobody could control these boards. The other people’s editorial privileges could be restricted as you deem fit.

If Hyper-EMH is able to help out with technicalities then why not try it out on a sacrificial temporary board? <rodent> You could play around with permitting others limited access and see how things shape up. All groups are always more effective when collaborating <hug> leave the bickering to the politicians.

The only "stuff" that happens here that unsettles us is when Hyper/Emailheaven turns up periodically and plants stupid posts or starts inane threads. But I do think it's futile (& a little dangerous) asking him for help with technicalities because he cannot/will not get to grips with them, which is why he does not respond to pm's.

Retirement? What are you talking about! You have nothing to retire from here where mercifully you hold no administrative sway!

Solutions: Yeah! I've got one - please leave this forum altogether and go off and find the ones that you say welcome you with open arms.... <dove>

[Mobson - re. post #33] Sure - but if the damage was done ‘in another place’ it would not matter. Also (s)he does know some tecchy tricks which Caissier (+ others) could try out to see if they improved this board in due course. For example I know how to set up a ‘home page’ which newbies could find first before venturing onto the slightly random bundle of topics we have learned (or learnt?) to grow and love

One thing any forum dedicated to Radio 4 must allow is discussion of its present policy of cutting programmes and presenters while bringing in new ones (so Richard Daniel gets the chop in favour of Jim Al-Khalili and another version of 'The Choice/whatever the other one was'). There is inevitably going to be some 'nastiness' as a consequence, but that's unavoidable, unless this forum is just going to be some Mary Whitehouse shangri la.

And is it really worth dealing with someone like HS because the decor isn't quite to taste? It ain't broke, so why fix it?

This forum does allow discussion of many subjects, and opinions can be aired, although I fail to see why there has to be an "inevitable nastiness as a consequence". Whilst this forum may have started out (via an indirect route) because posters became refugees from the BBC's termination of the Radio 4 messageboards a year ago, it has developed and widened its remit to encompass far wider subjects, not just R4.....

You appear to be someone who may know of HS....if you know the whole history then you wouldn't ask this question, and if not, the reason for dealing with 'someone like HS' is that they are not really contributing to the forum but disrupting it - however innocent their actions may be....and that behaviour if not dealt with could well 'break up' a forum, as they have done elsewhere in the past...
