"Radio 4's most curmudgeonly author is back for a new series complete with his trusty companion Elgar" so says the programme schedule....

As we renew our acquaintance with Ed, we find him in a somewhat lighter mood, enjoying normal weekend-ish type things like having a bath and whistling! He's also visiting the DIY store which will please some of our posters who indulge in that particular activity! There may be a reason for this new outlook on life....

Ed Reardon's Week
Series 8 Episodes 6

Tuesday 3rd April
Episode 1: Have a Great Weekend
18.30pm duration: 30 minutes

My answer to my own question is yes, he is as fresh as ever. No jaded curmudgeon he. He can still grouch for England.

Well I'm sure you're not wrong then Hugh - <cat> I'm gonna listen to it now after I've just finished listening to latest Feedback presented by Roger Bolton, which co-incidentally was discussing if there is anything to be done to make Radio 4 comedy appeal to a wider audience with the writers of Ed Reardon and North by Northamptonshire???...and R4's comedy commissioning editor, whose name escapes me....Count Arthur Strong came up in a 'like him or hate him' discussion.....

I'll put up the link but it's not available to listen again as yet....

That's his forte.
Me, I like him, although I think the series is running a bit thin on new ideas now. Sit-coms based around one chareter and his foibles generally do. But Ed Reardon is still going strong!

A sneak preview suggests that Ed's savvy son Jake makes an appearance tonight.

(thinks...) Can you have an 'appearance' on the radio? Shoud it be an 'ahearance'?

Ed lays into BBC 4 bio-factertainments - the more the better. BBC 4 has compromised down badly, presumably to become 'more widely appealing' :(

Good stuff but Ed is rarely as barbed and furious as he used to be and Ping not so silly. It's still a good listen though and you have to concentrate to catch all the sharp asides.
