Difford's recommend The Americano for today's Independence Day celebrations! (don't have an American flag smiley!)...... The Americano: 2 shots Campari Bitter 2 shots Martini Rosso sweet vermouth Club Soda Glass:Collins Garnish:Orange slice Method: Pour Campari and vermouth into ice-filled glass and top up with club soda. Stir and serve with straws. They say: A bitter, fizzy, long refreshing drink, which you'll love if you like Campari.....me, I'll be using the Aperol left over from the weekend!!! History bit: First served in the 1860s in Gaspare Campari's bar in Milan, this was originally known as the 'Milano-Torino' as Campari came from Milano (Milan) and Cinzano from Torino (Turin). It was not until Prohibition that the Italians noticed an influx of Americans who enjoyed the drink and so dubbed it Americano. Edited by Mobson, Jul 4 2012, 09:50 AM.

Campari and soda with some vermouth to sweeten it slightly. It sounds ok. I might just have enough fresh mint left in my little pot to make a 'Mint Julep', although it is a drink that generally foxes me - I find it very hard to get the sugar right

Two good tunes to listen to while you're sipping... "Independence Day" by the Comsat Angels (from their great, overlooked debut album) "Almost Independence Day" - Van Morrison |

'Almost independence day' is burned into my brain May-Cee, along with the rest of the 'St Dominic's Preview' album. I went to a gig once at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow in the early 70s (The Mahavishnu Orchestra) and the roof was leaking. The band couldn't play because water was dripping onto Jan Hammer's keyboards, so we had to wait while someone fixed the leak. In the hours we waited, SDP was played over and over again through the PA (this was in the days of vinyl), presumably because it was the only thing they had. I like 4th of July by Aimee Mann, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S7HAvibdvc Edited by rumbaba, Jul 4 2012, 11:00 AM.

Is that the one with Will Smith where they spent a fortune on effects and about fourpence on the script? |

Apart from two films that I saw in the local Trinty Arts Theatre (Andy Serkis in 'Sex n drugs n rock n roll - Ian Dury film) and 'The Kings Speech' , which my wife was keen to see, the last films I saw in a cinema were the three Lord of the rings films, which were 2001, 2002, 2003. |
