I gave this a go; but I'm afraid I found him more annoying than funny. But then I also hate "Monty Python" (and all their solo ventures); Tommy Cooper; Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and "The Goon Show" in general (it was before my time but I hate it anyway). In fact anything that smacks of English "whimsy" or "eccentricity". (Yes, I know Milligan was more Irish than English.) May "Laugh A Minute" Cee |

Yes, I can see how he might be a bit trying. What kind of comedy is to your taste MayCee? |

Fair enough May Cee, I understand that Viv is an aquired taste, a bit like Ivor Cutler: I'm not a huge Monty Python fan and Spike Milligan was always a bit hit and miss for me but I have a soft spot for genuine eccentrics. |

I have copies of 'Sir Henry at Rawlinson End' that were originally taken as cassette recordings by a friend from Radio 1's John Peel Sunday-afternoon program. I digitally remastered four episodes onto CD; it's possibly the funniest thing I can listen to, and each time I listen, I hear another subtle joke. Oddly, the 'official' versions of 'Sir Henry' do not come over as so funny; I think Viv Stanthall used to put these tapes together and John Peel gave him free rain to broadcast them. Subsequent sanitised recordings do not have the same lusty spontanaety, I reckon. |

Not a lot makes me laugh, caissier; I'm afraid I'm a bit of an oul sour-puss! (See my new thread in the TV section.) I should have mentioned earlier... I have always enjoyed the Bonzos "Intro" song; especially, of course, Hitler on vibes. ("Nice!") |

The Bonzos turned up on "Quote Unquote" this week. "We are normal and we dig Bert Weedon" Like the four panellists, I'd never heard of it either! |
