http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/clint-eastwood-whips-up-convention-crowd-before-gop-nominees-acceptance-speech/2012/08/30/f55170dc-f312-11e1-b74c-84ed55e0300b_story.html A sad, rambling 'speech' by Clint Eastwood at the Republican convention, where he addressed an empty chair (talking to President Obama). I liked the tweet that read 'If he wanted to talk to an inanimate object, why didn't he just talk to Romney?' I'm intrigued by the notion that people who are rich must be 'clever' and that people who are, by this line of logic, 'clever' must be good for the country. It strikes me that anyone, of whatever political hue, who has spent their lives accumulating personal wealth and power doesn't really sound credible when the say they want to stand up for ordinary Americans. What's good for such a person is not necessaily good for everyone else. Romney's biggest campaign backers are banks like Goldman Sachs - the sort of people who brought the world close to economic collapse and we are still hearing from him and his lunatic running mate, Ryan, that we need 'less regulation' He decided to patronise, rather than attack the president, blaming his lack of experience 'in business'. This is the same nonsense that is trotted out by MPs who get paid thousands of pounds for outside work claiming that it helps keep them in touch with the 'real world'. Tory Sir Malcolm Rifkind 'earns' £246,359.27 per year on top of his Westminster salary. He is a director of asset management and farming companies, does consultancy work and makes media appearances, reportedly working on non-Westminster duties for an average of 15 hours a month. Hands up who thinks someone getting £246,000 a year for working 15 hours a month is living in the real world? Edited by rumbaba, Aug 31 2012, 08:44 AM.

................“He’s an American icon,” Romney spokeswoman Gail Gitcho told CNN’s Piers Morgan. “You can’t look at him at through the same political lens that you would other politicians. He’s Clint Eastwood.”........... In other words, "We'd have taken the plaudits if the appearance went down well but, as it didn't, it was was all 'just Clint being Clint'" (Success has many fathers, failure is an orphan) |

The scary thing is that, if he ran for President, Clint would probably walk it. Reagan is one of the best-loved presidents of all time and Bill Clinton is one of the most reviled. The truth is that, by any objective measure on both foreign and domestic policy, Clinton is the best president they have had in modern times and Reagan, even before his illness, was a dimwit. Romney is like Bush, without the folksy charm and Ryan is a total crackpot.

There are the twin strands of nonsensical fantasy and of blatant, cynical manipulation. The Tea Party people maintain they want to take America back to purer times of covered wagons and simple truths, when everyone knows they are funded by the billionaire Koch Brothers and others. The Republican's policies are now, and have been for some time, based on the crackpot philosophy of Ayn Rand, who made extreme selfishness a moral duty ...... and Ann Romney gets up at the convention to say, "Tonight, I want to talk about ...... love ..... " .They will devastate Medicare and Medicaid and with their counter-intelligent economic policies risk plunging America the world into total chaos, all because of adherence to An Idea, rather than reasoned and rational attitudes. Republican controlled states are actively trying to make voting difficult and expensive for Democrat-leaning voters. They say Obama has failed on the economy but have been blocking everything he has tried to do for the last two years. They are now making statements about Obama which are complete falsehoods. They admit this but say they are doing it because "it works". It's insane amorality on a national scale and the nation is the most powerful in the world. Various experts are saying Romney won't win but if the Republicans keep control of the House of Representatives and even win the Senate this hopeless stalemate will go on and on. Article on the deceit and delusion of political marketing .... http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/aug/30/election-2012-media-vast-rightwing-conspiracy-stupid A recent book claims that what Obama has done has been successful in many ways but that goes against the 'narrative' ..... which is that 'Romney will be better for the economy'. This is the ideal President for the average American voter. After his speech, he led the attack against the invading enemy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9iWheRuka0 |
