It's sort of interesting in a pop archaeology way. Sir Paul gets lots of attention and everything but what does Ringo think about that? He came over as generous and sensible when talking about George in Martin Scorcese's documentary. I get the impression that the Rory Storm connection is revealing about him as basically an old Teddy Boy with sneery-vicious undertones which did add to the Beatles mixture. He was overshadowed even more than George. He doesn't need, financially, presumably, to be resentful but even so ....... He bad-mouthed Liverpool some time ago and didn't mind the reaction. He might have been lucky to stay in the band and not gone the same way as Pete Best. Perhaps he was too much one of the Fab Four by then ..... ??? His drumming came in for some mockery. Solid though. They said Paul was a better drummer. |

Ringo:...doesn't care, he's the voice of Rev Wilbert Awdry's Thomas the Tank Engine!

George Martin said that he 'couldn't do a roll' (he used another drummer on some of the early recordings) and, when asked in a press conference in the States if he thought Ringo was the best drummer in world, John Lennon replied 'he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles', which was funny but a bit cruel IMO. The dynamics of a band are complicated, Ringo might well have been the catalyst that made it work. Supergroups rarely work, too many egos competing and Ringo's contribution to the Beatles could have been greater than anyone imagined, including him.
