Hard to classify, he does all sorts. A great player though. I love this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hEWFsXrXv4&feature=share

Richard looking good there! I used to be nuts about him and Linda, especially around the I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight time, but I find his voice a bit abrasive (and I thought Linda was a bit scary). His guitar playing in that video looks incredible. Can't forget the Fairports though.

I'm not a fan of his singing style either, it still has a lot of that 'finger in the ear', folk club style that is a bit abrasive: it's not what you would call 'soulful'. Sandy Denny was a different kettle of fish though, the voice of an angel. He is a terrific guitar player but he sometimes looks like Frank Spencer in his daft beret: not a rock n roll look. He looks better here than he usually does.

Agree with you both about the voice. I've seen him live twice in the last five years or so and I would rate him as one of the very greatest all-round versatile guitarists. His ability to snap from one style or genre to another (one guitar to another) in seconds is astonishingly skilful. I'll have to try hard not to think of Frank Spencer next time though!
