I think it's okay to use a word from the line-up as the link, but it should form part of the title - so it would be fine to go from Douglas' last play to The Lake House, for instance.

Yes, that is what I understood too, though I always try and stick to the film title, if possible. I am not so fond of using The or A though - they seem nothing words to me.
