I'll just repeat the rules from the start of the old thread:

Quote:

You can add, remove or change one letter at a time to form a new word.

Letters can change order or stay the same but a straight anagram is not allowed.

For example:

cared
bared
breed
deer
dear
rate
tamer

(I am away again tomorrow for a week - babysitting. Hope I manage to get the nappy round the right way this time! Babysitting is only one day - the rest is visiting, and probably trying to calm my husband when our son has driven him up the wall again. Not being here means I am happy to put up an eight-letter word.)

A 9-letter word with 3 Ns in it - you're too kind!

The only shorter word I can find (other than indigent) is enditing, which is pretty obscure, so I'll stick with 9 letters:

Is this the British or American spelling? I can never remember which is which out if -ise and -ize.

Brave enough to check this now (the alternative is gardening so no contest really). SC, it is my understanding that New Zealanders always prefer the 'ise' ending, seeing it as more British, but I remember reading an Inspector Morse book once where the solution was connected to the fact that a properly educated (Oxford-educated?) Briton would use the 'ize' ending. So I now merrily use whichever one comes into my head.

nachoes (which I suspect doesn't have an 'e', but that's too bad: I am putting one in)

In general, -ize has been superseded in British English by -ise, whereas -ize has been retained in American English. At least, that's my understanding.

Caro, I'm not sure why you would choose to use such a dubious word as 'nachoes' when there were plenty of other more acceptable acceptable alternatives. You could, for instance, have had

Well, I could have just had hasten, but that seemed sort of like cheating.

You never do soft options, so I don't like to either. Otherwise it would be tempting to go with 'camera'.

I do soft options on occasion, Caro - although I'd probably draw the line at simply appending an 's'.
