Not British but NZ, but likely to strike a chord. This article http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/7779571/Jobless-battler-takes-on-Winz-for-a-3-cause talks of someone who challenged our Work and Income Department (Social Welfare) over a small amount of money and was eventually awarded $17,000 (though the article isn't quite clear why apart from talking about privacy issues). Now the department is challenging that decision. Wouldn't you think occasionally they could let the little man win? $17,000 is nothing in a budget of billions and yet it would mean so much to him. I'm sure he's a pain in the neck but so what? The court found him upright and honest, so he hasn't been ripping them off. Why can't they just show a bit of graciousness? |

I, too, am as honest and upright as the day is long (and the night, for that matter) ... So, if I make myself a pain in the neck to you for long enough, I trust you'll be happy to give me NZ$17000 (about £3.75, I expect!).
