Pat Nevin recalls the tragic evening when Scotland manager Jock Stein died. Some of the testimonies are very moving ... In 1985 Scotland dramatically drew with Wales on the way to qualifying for the 1986 World Cup. Minutes after the final whistle Scotland football manager Jock Stein was dead. He suffered a heart attack. As the two teams prepare once more to meet in a World Cup qualifier, former Scottish international Pat Nevin recalls the tragic evening in Cardiff. I still have my commemorative T shirt, which I got in 1967 when Celtic won the European Cup. It doesn't fit me anymore though ![]() A great man, he did well at my local home club Dunfermline Athletic (The Pars) and then did great at Celtic. I don't recall him being a particularly great Scotland manager but he was respected throughout the world of football and deservedly so.
