This week's Foodprogramme reports on the latest ideas to tackle our growing mountains of food waste by thinking creatively and producing good food from surplus produce...a really fascinating report; especially on ways to help feed the homeless here in the UK via a laden rickshaw full of gathered food from Food for All, or going to orchards in Kent to 'glean' apples and pears from farmers who, after harvest, cannot send their produce to supermarkets... the Food Cycle team in Birmingham sounds like a brilliant use of recycling surplus fresh food....

Particularly like Rubies in the Rubble; they collect fruit and vegetables from Spitalfields market in London and turn them into a range of chutneys and jams....

The Garden Cider Company in Surrey run by Ben Filby, who collects unwanted apples from gardens and orchards in the area, turns them into cider, repays the apple donors with the product and sells some on the side....the pulp goes to local pig farmers!
