It only stops your brain from shrinking, taf - thus reducing the risk of your cranium imploding. <wink>

I hadn't read that till then, but our news says this story has gone viral. However if you want a really heart-warming story, this was just below it in our online news stories, and is perhaps my favourite story of all time. I am not sure why it is on the news at this particular time (oh, to do with the reporter's experience, I see now). http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/blogs/in-our-nature/8025692/Black-robins-story-of-hope

Crook O' Lune bridge repairs halted by nesting birds

Work to repair a Grade II listed bridge across the River Lune in Lancashire has been halted because of nesting birds.

Repairs started on the pedestrian East Bridge at Crook O'Lune, which links Caton with the River Lune Millennium Park near Lancaster, in April.

Engineers preparing to demolish the old bridge deck found a blue tits' nest and four nests of jackdaws beneath it.

Lancashire County Council (LCC) said work should resume at the end of June when the birds' young have flown.
'Set an example'

Jim Robson, a LCC engineer working on the refurbishment, said the discovery was made when they prepared to remove the old deck, which was rotten.

He said it was "one of the many contingencies you meet when doing work like this".

Mr Robson said the delay should not be too long.

"The jackdaws are virtually fully fledged and almost ready to go," he said.

"The blue tits have a little longer to go. We're expecting them to be flying away in a week to 10 days."

He added: "Birds are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the county council as a responsible landowner wants to set an example as to how it deals with theses issues when it comes across them."

The bridge was closed in March 2011 after safety concerns.

The work, estimated to cost £1.5m, was scheduled to be completed by October but LCC said it may now be November.

The bridge carries the River Lune Cycleway and is a popular route for cyclists, walkers and horse riders.

It is one of three that cross the river at the Crook O'Lune.

The limerick thread today reminded me of a news item on our television last night. I didn't catch the beginning of it, but it was about an 87-year-old NZ woman being reunited (and married) to her childhood sweetheart who is now 89. They were both English, I don't know from which county. I think he had gone to war and written to her. She never received the letters and assumed he had just gone off her and it was over. He didn't get replies to his letter and assumed the same They both married and she came to NZ. He decided that if she had gone that far away with her husband she was definitely not interested in him any more. Only recently, and I don't know quite why, they reconnected. It had turned out that her family had objections to their courtship, as they were first cousins, so they had withheld his letters.

Both of them were completely clear and articulate, and their marriages seemed to be happy, but she was quite angry and resentful of her family's interference - they had spoilt her life. Anyway she looked lovely in her bright blue dress and very keen to kiss him after the marriage ceremony!

Any way to treat a friend?

"Italian businessman Pourmohseni Hadi felt he’d been given the run-around by BMW, with the car giant not managing to get to the bottom of his 2008 BMW M6′s numerous issues. So he parked it outside the Frankfurt Motor Show and smashed it up with an axe and a mate with a hammer."

The latest development in the world of 3D printing is an edible raspberry - but is it anything like the real thing?

Vaiva Kalnikaite of Cambridge-based tech company Dovetailed told the BBC's Waseem Mirza that the 3D fruit was a good alternative to the real thing.

What do they print it on?

They recently did a hip replacement at Southampton General Hospital using a 3D-printed replacement. Apparently, it only cost 10 times as much as a normal hip replacement operation. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-27436039 I'm unsure as to whether or not this should gladden the heart.

In a controversial move, the Labour leader has appointed Lord Prescott as his personal adviser with specific responsibility for climate change. His remit, according to aides, is to “bash heads together”.

Just the man for the job!
