I'm finding this quite a gem - very well made and acted with subtle attention to period speech styles and historical details ..... which gives it a tense reality.

The same theme was used in the revived UpstairsDownstairs on tv in a very slack cynical way imo.

Me too - I caught it for the first time yesterday as the English sisters were composing a faux letter regarding a jewish prisoner they were hoping to get to Britain, and will have to go back to the beginning - I loved this scenario two respectable opera-loving English women wearing an lady escapee's valuable jewellery whilst she had to sit at the other side of a train carriage gazing at her life savings "pinned to our Woolworth's cardigans "....brilliant!

This was passing me by until I read your post, caissier ....I am now catching up with it...thanks!

What a pair of sisters they were and what a wonderful story this is ...good that it is being given a wider platform so that more people learn of their efforts ...wonderful women <bubbly>

Ezio Pinza who features in the story was the 'voice' of Emil de Becque in the film South Pacific

It evokes the times and the fear, for me, and the desperate situation of those trying to get themselves and their families to safety - and the introverted lack of concern by many in this country ...... but the two sisters rise to the occasion. One of them went on to be a very successful romantic novelist.
