Our music reviewer, Nick Bollinger, is talking about Scott Walker's new album, Bish Bosch. When he said he was going to be talking about Scott Walker, my first reaction was "That can't be the Scott Walker I used to know. He hasn't been around for ages." But it was Scott Walker of the Walker Brothers. Nick said it was still the same voice but something had happened to his relationship with melody. It is extremely odd music to my ears, but when I once wrote and wondered who the music they had recently played - some sort of weird electronica - could possibly appeal to, I was scolded and told all sorts of tastes were catered for. He said, having decided this is not pop of any sort: "I'd be surprised if he had any peers in the classical world either. Scott Walker is out there someone on his own. Bish Bosch is mad, scary and perhaps even profound." He calls it "a complete sonic world, so much so that it's hard to believe any other world exists." (This is after he's immersed himself in some 20 minute 'song'.) I don't know modern music to any degree, but do you know this album and how does it sound to you? I think if I listened to it enough I could almost get to like it. But perhaps not. |

I''ve got Scott's 'Tilt' album, which is a bit strange but I think this new one is way out there on it's own. |

With the release of Scott Walker's much anticipated new album, 'Bish Bosch', says the Curzon, comes Epizootics!, the first track to be aired in full as a stunning trailer for the album, it can now be experienced in full for free on Curzon on Demand. The comprehensive documentary Scott Walker: 30 Century Man is also available to watch. Scott has written a companion piece to compliment his season at the Curzon here in this link...... http://www.curzoncinemas.com/news/all/scott_walker_curzon_on_demand.aspx?dm_i=9J0,133VZ,3B9NEM,3CZX8,1 Edited by Mobson, Dec 10 2012, 10:06 AM.

Scott is an intriguing character (and a frustrating one to try to interview!) He was, I'd say, the first mainstream pop star to deliberately sabotage his career; to turn his back on commercial music to make more personal - and more and more "weird" - music. I like him a lot; "Climate Of Hunter" is the one I return to most. |
