Best Musical Memoirs - this year or any. I'm planning to make this my Christmas read http://www.theartsdesk.com/new-music/lives-music-1-rod-autobiography I bought the book after hearing a really positive and upbeat interview with Kirsty Lang on Front Row in October, in which she started by asking what had been left out of the book and he replied he didn't think anything had been left out....although he added people said to him 'what about this story or that story'. He is someone who has kept his head, at least, firmly on his shoulders where other contemporaries have disappeared down the musical plughole of fame and fortune....Famous, or infamous for his serial philandering, he's candid about how badly one particular relationship breakdown affected him. Lots of myths and true stories in the book, but he dismisses one myth that he wanted to become a professional footballer.. and another that he also never dug graves! He has a back catalogue of forty years and has just written 10 songs for a new album that will come out in March 2013. Here's the 14 minute Front Row interview which includes his famous hit Maggie May... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00zzssj Saw him later on Graham Norton's show. Great clip where Graham chats with Rod about his love of Celtic Football and him crying when they beat Barcelona.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p010xpv8 Edited by Mobson, Dec 18 2012, 02:52 PM.

He's still light years behind Sir Paul McCartney, who is at the moment at the very top of his game with probably the best band he's ever played with (Rusty Anderson, Brian Ray, Paul "Wix" Wickens (who wrote the music for The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Abe Laboriel Jnr.) ... See him while you still can. Edited by tafkaj, Dec 21 2012, 12:31 PM.

I liked the early Rod Stewart albums, it was all rubbish after he went to the States. Give me 'Pool Hall Richard' or 'Cindy Incidently' over 'You're in my heart' or any of the other old tosh he did after. As for him and Bryan Ferry rolling out 'The great American songbook' to make a few bucks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rYWx-erzio Edited by rumbaba, Dec 18 2012, 08:39 PM.

I always seem to be giving friends books on the Beatles...the group jointly or individual....met Cynthia Lennon a few years back when her book came out called 'John' ...at a signing at Waterstone's in St Christopher's Place...she seemed very gracious - even allowed piccies with her! Gave another book on John, this one by Phillip Norman called John Lennon: The Life, to a Spanish friend who was visiting for Christmas...he read the entire book over Christmas - it was like he wasn't here! Best houseguest I've ever had!

Rod Stewart has scored his first UK number one album for 34 years, going straight to the top with his LP, Time.Time is Stewart's first album of new material for two decades and was inspired by the process of writing his recent autobiography. It entered the chart ahead of singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin's debut album English Rain, which is a new entry at number two. Rod was last at the top of the UK album chart with his Greatest Hits Vol 1 in 1979. |
