Every other pop song seems to be collaboration these days....it appeals to artist and record labels alike... If you want to have a large pop hit get a guest - for example 2012's bestselling single was Gotye's Somebody That I Use to Know...(I had never heard of it until I was researching a music video for another artist)...but perhaps it wouldn't have 'gone global' without the haunting vocals of Kimbra - anyone heard of her? ... Playing antagonistic lovers, Australian Gotye and the New Zealander Kimbra exchange lyrics of spine-chilling spitefulness on a song that topped the British charts for five weeks, the American charts for eight and reached the Top 10 in more than 30 countries.... Gotye Somebody that I used to know feat. Kimbra http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8UVNT4wvIGY The third bestselling single was Fun's ubiquitous We Are Young ...feat. Janelle Monae..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv6dMFF_yts Of the UK's 10 biggest selling songs in 2012, half had a featured artist..... Edited by Mobson, Jan 10 2013, 09:04 AM.

Sting did that for years, to try to keep his profile high, he was forever popping up on other people's records. |
