Yes it was ME! Haven't we, didn't we, go on and on and on about moderation vis-a-vis the BBC messageboards which were closed in 2011! - do we really need to spend/waste time reliving a dead duck....after all you did say "don't start me on their moderation."....I was agreeing with you! <cool>

Well, the straight answer is that you don't need to talk about anything you don't want to, but 'Blah blah blah' suggests that you are going to anyway, and not in an especially articulate manner.

But the Archers' messageboard is just closing, and we're discussing alternatives, and their viability. If you have an opinion about that, and you can manage to share it without being antagonistic...

Why do people seem to think the BBC might care about the 'Downfall' spoof (which is good, but not all that)? They've turned a blind eye to much more embarrassing material, and modded completely harmless stuff. There's no consistency...

Discuss (moderation on the Beeb).

Just looking in on the petition to sign...as Doomsday approaches over at the BBC Archers m/b's at noon, and see that the 'Stop the Closure of The Archers Message Board' has not reached it's projected target signatures of 2,000! Currently 1,414 have signed up so perhaps the Beeb do have a point! <erm>

p.s. noted it's sponsored by Steve Rudd, he of the Downfall movie!

They are probably better off at Peet's Place. It must feel like being expelled from the fold though, and the losing the feeling of having a direct line to Vanessa Whitburn.

confusinger. It's not Hyper's board. He registers with Smeesue's board, creates a link to this board, then posts the link to that link here.

What's really horrifying, though, is the thought of the other 44 posts he made... <yikes>

No, just the one personality, but a deeply suspect one...

When they announced the impending closure of the Radio 4 boards (a few years back now, as I'm regularly being reminded), there was a small window of opportunity for someone to establish an alternative board which could take on those disgruntled souls, demonstrating an integrity that could assuage the concerns of people more willing (ill-advisedly in my view) to trust the BBC to moderate fairly and sensibly. Instead, we got Hyper, and by the time it became clear we were being wound up, that window of opportunity had gone, and anyone still posting on what's left of the BBC boards (Points of View, now), has very little chance of knowing where to find discussions about Radio 4 (especially if they don't see this thread, now on page 8). And if I had a pound for every time someone asks on PoV about a board for discussing radio, to be met with the banal recommendation by 'Peta' to go to a particular radio station's site if they want to comment...

So let's see how that works. Here's R4's home address: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/ Oh, there's a blog (the 'opportunity' to post comments at the bottom of one or two linked newspaper articles is no longer there, but as comments to those stories had been suspended months previously, they just made the BBC look silly). The biggest blog response, to the 'Feedback' entry, was four comments, none of which are ever likely to be addressed on the programme.

So congratulations, Hyperstar, on all your efforts to keep public discussion between R4 listeners 'safe and well'. And those thanks are as sincere as your concern for anyone besides yourself...

Hmmm, three headings on the forum; the first of which is a direct link to here using your name in the title Caiss....which I really do not like! <yikes>

The second link's to Mustardland - think someone who's registered over at SmeeSue's should give her the nod! Kindest thing to do before 'someone' scuttles things there! <erm>

The third is primarily full of spam and ends back in Nov 2012.. Rikiiboy is registered but not active since Oct 2011...

From The Telegraph....

As a new editor takes over The Archers, Iain Hollingshead offers a chance to catch up with all 62 years of sex and scandal in Ambridge

Pity whoever steps into Vanessa Whitburn’s shoes. This week the longest-serving editor of The Archers stepped down after 22 years of delighting and riling the show’s millions of demanding fans in (almost) equal measure. To help her successor hit the ground running, The Sunday Telegraph has unearthed an abbreviated script of the last 62 years in Ambridge…

I am beginning to fear that I care not who comes and goes anymore in either cast, scriptwriters or editors....recently the Archers is so depressing to listen to that I find myself hitting the off-button more and more, and being away for a few days and now listening to the lunchtime episode my opinion is confirmed....

The first thing I noticed was the sighing...followed by the moaning and the hatred...just about everyone has an axe to grind (if only!)....

Going back during the time of Vanessa Whitburn's editorship, Mark Hebden, solicitor, husband of Shula and three-time winner of the dreariest man in Borsetshire competition, was killed in a road accident. Nigel Pargetter, doting husband of Elizabeth, Shula's sister, was thrown off a roof to 'celebrate' the 60th anniversary of the series.

Greg Turner, a short-tempered and moody gamekeeper shot himself and most recently the farrier Chris Carter, husband of itchy feet Alice Carter nee-Archer, has been kicked in the chest by a horse, but not before he produced a jobsworth of sighing and sulking over Alice going off for a job interview in Canada. Surely a more experienced character might have spotted the danger signs there: when a man's wife is over 4,500 miles from Ambridge, he's either going to end up dead or in bed with somebody else! Because of the downward spiralling feel-bad factor that is creeping in to practically every family in this blessed radio soap, the near-death option prevailed instead.

Tom Archer & Brenda are squabbling because he wanted his mum to put more exciting veggies in the family farm's organic boxes and now he wants to get rid of the cowherd. David Archer and his wife Pat are constantly sighing big-time over their eldest, Pip, who up until recently was a 'butter wouldn't melt in her mouth' daughter but has now (according to them) turned into a lazy, uncaring, all-night party popper, ever since she got involved with 'that Skiing crowd'...Lillian has set up a 'second home' behind Matt Crawford's back with the creepy Paul (there's a whole other story about to break there), whilst neglecting her duties in the office which is pissing Brenda, off as well as Tom's obsession with his gourmet ready-meal venture, then there's a lot of sighing (& crying) from Elona Makepeace?, Albanian care worker/cleaner for Peggy, who is dead scared that Darrell, her British ex-con, freelance carpenter husband, is going off the rails and moonlighting for cash, but even that doesn't stop her nagging him incessantly about their dire financial situation....

In the past, there were moments that have tugged at the heartstrings - I'm a sucker for hearing friends and family rally round in a crisis but those are few and far between these days. I'll certainly (hopefully) be there for the 70th anniversary edition - just to see which of the village's menfolk will be sent to that great Felpersham by-pass in the sky...but between then and now there's a helluva lot of plot to get through... <angel>

Phew! that's about all I can deal with at the moment as I feel a major depression coming over me that will spoil my lovely Easter break if I'm not careful, except to say to the new editor - For goodness sake, put a bit of light-heartedness, love and dare I say, humour into the programme before we all go looking for a horse to kick us! <eh>

<ok> to all of that Mobs ..... If they can't make it better, brighter listening they should put in out of its misery by announcing that Ambridge, Lower Loxley and Grey Gables will disappear as they all lie on the proposed route of the HS2.

I don't believe it! A new character is born and guest what - her first scenes are having an argument with her ex-husband and end with her shouting and ordering him out of her house! More angst! The new character is Celia Morgan and she is played by Anita Dobson, who will always been known I guess as Angie Watts in Eastenders. Her ex is none other than Paul Morgan, who is currently romancing Lillian...

Used to listen to TA regularly, but seldom hear it now. The odd snippet on the car radio from time to time and (some of) the omnibus occasionally. Last weekend we had house guests who made me drink too much, and I remember vaguely hearing the omnibus through a veil of slumber and wondering why it was on so early - it was only after I got up that I twigged the reason. British summer time? I'd rather have Brisbane winter time.

I deduce from that you will not be listening tomorrow...so here comes the spoiler! <wink>

Tom has been told by his fiancé Brenda that she is breaking off their engagement and is not even prepared to give their relationship a second chance...on the other hand, his parents, Tony and Pat, have decided to go along with his radical proposal to ditch the cowherd to save expenditure and allow development of his plans to come to fruition....typical Archer plot-writing - give with one hand take with the other! Only fiction of course.... <whistles>

Good question Cass....and a very weak reason in my opinion - after a bit of preamble and waffle like things weren't working, Tom's obsession with his pigs, ready-meals etcetera...and then the bombshell ...she doesn't want children and she knows Tom very much does. Where did that one come from? - I ask you! :-/

<doh> .............. I think the Archers could do with an honest to goodness murder ...... simple life and death earthiness (not committed by Clive Horrobin). They could introduce/send up Scandi-noir elements ...... down in the dripping crypt of St Steven's with small torches ....... a showdown in the drawing room at Lower Loxley, like Poirot. Maybe Nigel's death was not an accident ....... ?? (David off the hook <ok> ....... ) CSI Felpersham!!
