Happy Easter to all on our forum.... I'm in not so sunny Spain (Murcia) ....it's warm but a little overcast today. Hope everyone is having a relaxing time and eating lots of chocolate, or as much as they are allowed , as for me right now is time... Olé

Another year on and it's Happy Easter 2014 to all on our Forum. Hope everyone eats their fill of chocolate & simnel cake Popping over to the Canaries to see friends for the quickest of trips after getting back from Kent late last night where all is stable. My mother and the carers have assured me they can cope for a few days...so I'm taking advantage of a precious mini-break! Edited by Mobson, Apr 18 2014, 12:09 PM.

Have a good time, Mobs! Just a resting, winding-down weekend for me; after a particularly busy working week. Hope you're coping okay. Happy Easter and all the best. |

Have a good relax, Mobson. Yesterday (Good Friday here) I made hot cross buns and they turned out very well. A couple of years I tried to do the recipe in the breadmaker but it wasn't so good, so I am back to taking the long route. The cake made a couple of days before using some homemade grape juice wasn't such a success - nothing wrong with it as a cake but it has a different taste which my husband isn't keen on, and I don't really eat cake. Has been a very wild early Easter for NZ, though not quite so bad where I live, way down south, which seems to escape many of these weather events. Where we used to live people have had their roofs lifted, whole buildings gone, people rescued from cars, etc. Here just wet and windy - a perfect day for Good Friday really, where we can sit and relax at home. (Though my husband did not resist the garden and cut some hedges and weeded.) |

May Bank Holiday this weekend! I'm back in London to spend it with friends from Belgium who are visiting for a few days...looking forward to their arrival later today and the expectation of a gift of some extremely good quality ...last time they bought me an exquisite box of hand-made chocs which were almost orgasmical...(I care not if that is not a proper word!!!!) ...and Belgium cherry beer that is definitely not exported here... There's a Spanish themed food market over at Southbank this weekend ... http://www.streetsofspain.com/ - will definitely be dropping by enroute to Tate Modern where my friends want to see the new Matisse Cut Outs Exhibition.. Bank holiday plans blighted by father being taken to hospital in middle of night for usual problem...everything seems to go slo-mo over a holiday weekend at hospitals and the one my father was taken to was no exception...as the medics explained there were several serious emergencies to deal with. Pleased to say he's back home now ...as are my Belgian guests having had a few days in the Capitol visiting various art galleries' exhibitions...

It looks rather lovely judging by the photos on Google Images, but I don't recall ever going there, even though Mrs Tickle's parents lived near Porthmadog when I first knew her. That may have been in the days before we had a car, but I'd have thought we might have had a drive out out that way with her folks. |

The only times I've been to Wales was on business. I used to go where the big steel plants were to sell them our stuff to line there furnaces with. I liked Ebbw Vale. There were some nice girls there. |

Back at the weekend from a delightfully exhausting road trip to Gwynedd - an area in north-west Wales named after the old Kingdom of Gwynedd, second biggest in terms of geographical area and also one of the most sparsely populated - what staggeringly beautiful lakes and vistas this part of Wales offers up to it's visitors...and then we went to Cardiff! You could wait a long time Dai, meanwhile I'm off again at the weekend to visit North Yorkshire...staying with friends in their beautifully regal Victorian pile on the cliffs overlooking the north sea...going to eat fish and chips cooked in beef dripping, take an open top bus ride to eat a traditional Sunday roast and drink dark frothy draught Guinness at Scalby Mills go ride the little steam train, gorge on a knickerbocker glory on the seafront cadge a lobster and a crab from Andy Scarboro' to bring home...oh and go for long walks on the sandy beaches and then endeavour to climb up the hill to the Castle! After that, will try to fit in a visit to friends in Norfolk once I've checked back at home...I'm trying to get through the counties this year since I can't go too far away...been to Essex, Wales a couple of weeks back; Kent & Hertfordshire being 'regulars'... Day trip to Portsmouth tomorrow. Should be able to get some decent fish and chips, but I don't think the mushy peas will be up to Yorkshire standard. |

Mrs Norm(Norma!) and I are off to the 'Land of my Fathers' next Sunday for a few days. Our granddaughter and her friend are going on a full boarding, horsey holiday about 20 miles north of Swansea and we have volunteered to take them and fetch them. Frances and I will be staying in Swansea and hope the weather will be kind to us so that we can get on to some of the fabulous beaches on the Mumbles peninsular. Otherwise it may resort to seeking out long-lost relatives up in the Valleys! |
