Thanks all for the birthday wishes. Je reste en belle Suisse, at the house of my niece (in Lausanne). Just been out for a very nice steak de cheval - I trust it wasn't contaminated with beef. Off to visit my brother in Valais tomorrow.

How many have you got on the clock Ticks?

It's my final stop on the x3 - x curve, Norm. I would add that it's a number divisible by 6, but as far as I can see, they all are - which strikes me as intriguing.

Belated thanks for the last three belated wishes.

Pretend the second one was from me, Madfor4. By the time I get here in the morning there are lots of congrats and mine feel unnecessary, but then I feel I have been ungracious, and by then it's too late! It'll be getting close to w4at's next birthday soon at this rate.

Received a belated birthday present from the NHS today - a bowel cancer screening test kit. Should be fun! Does everyone get one when they reach a certain age now? (Did you get one, Rikii?)

I'm led to believe that I now qualify for free drugs. I should think about putting my order in.

Is that the 'fecal occult blood test' , Tick? I had a routine medical check in December (through work) and they sent me one of those. I assume it's used in some sort of Satanic ritual. <devi>;; <magic>

Talking bowels, I've had a barium enema in my time too and that is much less fun. As well as fasting for 24 hours, you have to clean your bowel by mixing some magic crystals with cold water. This produces a steaming hot potion that you drink (make sure you are within 30 seconds of a toilet). I won't go into graphic detail about the X-ray process but, suffice to say, it involves a big tube. Taking the X-rays would be fine if they didn't keep making you change position. 'You'll think you want to go to the loo but you don;'t really' the doctor tells you, to which I reply 'You know what, I bloody well do!'

That's the one, rum - or rather, the three. I trust they're not planning to give me a barium enema as well.

I am getting mystified by all this - are you telling me everyone in Britain gets a bowel screening kit when they turn 60? Or just men? I have never heard of such a thing or the suggestion of such a thing in NZ. My brother-in-law was operated on recently for bowel cancer - they seemed to get it all but when he took some pills to ensure any spare lurking cells were cleared up, it had an effect on his heart. He said none of the common adverse effects affected him, just the one that was very rare. He was a bit slow at going for a check-up for symptoms and when he did they were a bit slow at picking it up. One doctor told him it wouldn't be bowel cancer because if it was he would be dead by the. Luckily the next time he went there was a locum or at least a different doctor and he got him a colonoscopy appointment quickly, though they couldn't do it because of a blockage which indicated cancer. So an immediate operation.

I'm just saying that I got one, Caro - which leads me to suppose that it must be common practice, since there's no reason for me to be singled out. Whether it's a national scheme or something peculiar to the area where I live, I don't know.

Did You see Rikiiboy's dreadful news on the other MB last night?

He heard yesterday that is youngest son is dead.

Yes, I heard that, Stout. And his elder son has quite severe health problems, I believe. Poor old Rikii must have a Ph.D from the University of Hard Knocks. My heart goes out to him.

How awful for him. I don't suppose his sons are very old at all. My sympathy for you, if you ever look here, Rikiiboy.

Having to give out this sort of news to internet boards is one of the downsides, I think. I remember a member of one board saying he and his wife were doing some walks round London, then he said his wife had got a bit too tired to complete one, then she wasn't very well, then he said she had pancreatic cancer, and soon after she was dead. He is a man who is quite open with his private life, but for those who aren't, these tragedies must be very difficult.

Hugh, if you go to the main menu and open something like General Discussion (or Current Affairs or whatever) there is on the right hand side something saying New Topic, and it is just like replying.

But no-one has to give out this sort of news, Caro: posters can choose to reveal as much or as little about their private life as they see fit. Faced with a tragedy such as this, I should think it's the least of Rikii's worries.

Good morning all,and thank you all for your kind thoughts,my lad was 30 .

Refering to that bum deal with the cardboard cut outs,I have completed a couple of those already tickle and Caro I am suprised that you dont get that card delivered to you in NZ as it's an early warning system that appears to be quite successfully in use here.
Ahhh but (or should that be butt?) it is quite an art trying to crap without the turd hitting the water, innit? <yikes>

No, it was because of a poetic plea from Rikii - and one from A N Other.

Norm, Mobs is referring to "Sinsoriginals", a board where you have an unactivated account.

Your mean you didn't get lots of socks and aftershave? And get to take Mrs Tickle out for a poncy dinner? That's too bad. Hope you had a lovely day anyway. Cheers, Caro.

No socks or aftershave, Caro - just some chocolate, a bottle of cocoa beer, tickets to see an Eagles tribute band and a hoody. <yikes> Surprisingly, the latter does not sport an ageist slogan, but the legend "I MAY BE WRONG but I doubt it". <laugh> Should I ever want to wear it, I'll probably find it in Grace 3's wardrobe.

As it happens, we - Mrs T, Grace 3 and self - did go for a poncy meal. I suppose we should be honoured that our 18-year-old is still prepared to be seen out with us.

Very good. I have found, though, that our three sons have never minded being seen with us if we are paying for the outing. (Though I do recall when I had a little green Mazda 323 that my son in about Year 10 would ask me to park some way from the school when I was dropping him off. The little green car was good enough to get him there rather than going by bus, but not cool enough to be seen in. Much like my present little black Toyota Platz, I think.)
