Tech problem? Dec 2014 We're under attack!; Dec 2014 We're under attack!

These days, when I post something, it doesn't register on the right hand side of the Main Board as the latest post.
It comes up eventually but it takes a while; I haven't been online long enough to see how long but it's not under half an hour.

Am I doing something wrong?

Oh, I hope I haven't annoyed you; I didn't mean to!
My complaint was silly; forget about it!
I'll get by!

I used to get annoyed a lot but now I don't have the energy, I get depressed instead. I wonder if that's a step forward? <erm>

Caissier et al: <happy>

Last Saturday I couldn't access the forum, altho when I tried late evening it was fine ...yesterday while I was trying to post over in the cricket thread...I was disconnected from the forum more than once each time the following page appeared:-

"A 522 error states that CloudFlare could not make a TCP connection to the origin server before the attempts timed out. This means that CloudFlare was unable to send the http request to the origin as no network connection to the origin server could be established.

Common reasons why this can occur include:

•Rate limiting incoming connections from CloudFlare's IPs.
•A process on the webserver is consuming all of one or more resources at the origin.
•The domain is on a shared hosting platform where traffic or tasks for a separate domain on the same server is taking up one or more resources.
•Network connectivity issues between CloudFlare and the origin web server. Checking for these conditions with your server administrator or hosting provider is the best way to resolve these errors. If there is a network problem, a traceroute to the origin can be useful.

If you're the owner of this website:
Contact your hosting provider letting them know your web server is not completing requests. An Error 522 means that the request was able to connect to your web server, but that the request didn't finish. The most likely cause is that something on your server is hogging resources. Additional troubleshooting information here."

I had a problem, last week I think, but the whole of Zetaboards was down, not just this board. If it happens again Mobs, see whether you can access the general Zetaboards site.

There is some sort of attack going on ..... a DDoS attack ...... http://www.digitalattackmap.com/understanding-ddos/

Summary of posts from Zeta support staff ....

Brian Nov 17 2014, 05:37 AM Post #1 AdminMember ...... Post: 5:37am EST
We're working with our server provider to restore access to those communities affected. Thanks for your patience.

Update: 11:50 am EST
This server is continuing to experience a DDoS attack of a scale unprecedented in our 12+ year history.

We had increased the protection on this server after the surge in this particular attack over the last few weeks, and that protection had stood up until early this morning. Unfortunately, our server provider, one of the largest in the world, has informed us that the attack has continued to increase and is now beyond even their ability to block effectively.

We're continuing to attempt to mitigate the attack to restore access to affected communities, but as of now we don't have a good estimate for how long that might take.

At the same time, we're evaluating other other options that could also potentially allow us to resolve this attack sooner, and network structuring options that could allow us to avoid future disturbances of this scale.

Thanks for your patience and know that Brandon and I are working on this constantly. Our staff, many of whom have boards of their own on this server, are also working to communicate with those of you affected both here and through other means like Twitter. Thanks again

I'm Browsing WithOperaMy Board URLhttp://hogwartsnewzealand.com/ Boards on s7 & 11 should begin to be accessible at this time, though we continue to work against the attack. When your board appears to be online for you may depend on how long it takes recent DNS changes to propagate.
Boards on s7 may seem slower than usual as we continue to work on the issue.

If your board remains inaccessible and are using a custom domain name you may need to update your DNS records for your domain to point to the new server IP address: 173.192.47.158 Thank you all for your patience during this process.

We're continuing to fight off this attack. Due to it's current severity, legitimate user traffic to your boards may be restricted, but we're continuing to work to restore normal access for all affected users.

Browsing With Safari A large attack is currently targeting multiple servers. We're working to restore normal access to all communities as soon as possible. Thanks for you patience. Brian

Browsing WithOperaMy Board URLhttp://hogwartsnewzealand.com/ In a continued effort to ward off these attacks, the IP address for the machine located at w11.zetaboards.com and s7.zetaboards.com has been changed back to its original IP. Domain records will need to be updated to this IP if you are using A-records.

We recommend, if possible, that you use a CNAME record for your domain and point it to either w11.zetaboards.com or s7.zetaboards.com (as appropriate) - that way if we continue to need to change the server IP to mitigate/evade the DDoS attack, your domain will work as soon as our DNS record changes propagate. We apologize for the inconvenience. Edited by Brian, Yesterday, 2:07 PM.

Browsing WithChrome We are in the process of updating our documentation to remove the requirement for an IP address to be used in forwarding your custom domain to our servers. If you encounter any difficulty in updating your domain, please don't hesitate to submit a support ticket (Your default ZetaBoards URL will still work to allow you to do this) or submit a Personal Support Ticket on this board.

Jonathan

Browsing WithChrome We are experiencing a very high volume of tickets on this issue at the moment. For those of you with domain providers that allow this, please adjust your domain forwarding so that it points to our servers with CNAMEs record only. Once you have done this, submit a support ticket or query with your domain address, and we will properly connect it to our servers.

For those of you without this ability, to speed up service, we ask that you provide the following information in your support ticket:

◾Link to custom domain

◾Your domain provider

◾Screenshot of your CNAME/A-records page

We will then advise on a case-by-case basis. We are also aware of an issue where using CNAME records may conflict with MX records that are also in use with by the domain and we will update on this when we have more information. These measures should be temporary until the implementation is complete.

Browsing WithChrome We are working with CloudFlare to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, some of you may encounter issues adding domains to your Domain Manager. We're working on a fix on our end for this, but please do not remove your domain from your Domain Manager unless you no longer wish to use it. Once again, we thank you for your patience while we continue the implementation of these new systems.

Jonathan

Notice they refer to W11.zetaboards & s7.zetaboards throughout...but not s4 which is what we are? ... do we need to upgrade or is that not relevant or significant?

Not sure what W11 refers to, but I think s4 and s7 are just different servers.

I had a lot of trouble with my email about a week ago.

Just have to be philosophical about it, I guess. Trying to do something this end would probably make things worse, I'd guess.
