G8 Protests: Riot Police Line London's West End As Group Occupy Abandoned Station

It's all kicking off here in the West End! Helicopters have been low-flying over head for several hours...it's like being in war-zone..very distracting as I'm trying to watch the cricket <cool>

Riot vans and a strong police presence were deployed in amid demonstrations ahead of the G8 conference. Around 100 police officers were in Soho, where protesters with banners were believed to be occupying a former police station in Beak Street....which is just off Carnaby Street if you don't know...

The move by police came as protesters from the group Stop G8 planned a "Carnival Against Capitalism" here in central London, ahead of the G8 conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Next week will see Enniskillen in Northern Ireland host the two day G8 summit where international leaders including PM David Cameron and US President Barack Obama take part in the two-day event. The chosen location is only 8 kilometers from the scene of one of Northern Ireland's worst killings back in 1987, however David Cameron is confident that it's secluded location will deter any potential trouble

Businesses in London's centre have reportedly warned staff to take precautions after similar protests in recent years led to violent clashes with police.

May-Cee

I meant to ask at the time, Mobs -
Did you take those great photos?

I love the wimp who's masking his face; not much point as he's with a very striking red-head who hasn't bothered disguising herself!

You talk about helicopters and war-zones...

You should have grown up in Belfast in the 70s; I could never concentrate on the cricket!

(You know I'm only joking!)
