The internet is a busy place, and there are still lots of R4 listeners, some of who still feel the need for a forum the BBC denies them. If only a fraction of them Google 'radio 4 forums', that's still a lot of people dropping in, in varying amounts.

How long has the 'Points of View' board got? Months? Years? Weeks?

Peta says it's secure, it has its own (tiny) programme and is very well behaved. It has survived DQF so feels like it will carry on. Some people have been getting slightly rancorous with Peta and that might undermine it. She's a good host though.

Peta knows jack. She's 'resigned', apparently, but think she might be back as she hasn't reached pension age yet (what is that now, 101?). Highly optimistic of her to think the PoV board will still be around when she feels an urge to start defending the indefensible again...

Goodbye

(for the record, I did complain about the thread which was 'sadly, off topic, for the subject of BBC TV programmes', but it's one rule for the plebs...)

As to this subject, I don't sweat the presence of guests. I remember being slightly gobsmacked when over 50 guests turned up on TrollhunterX. Took a while for me to twig that that was the total for the previous 24 hours, not who was viewing that very minute.

The only thing to worry about when you have guests, is entertaining them...

If Peta knows Jack then what does Joe actually know! <cool> Peta is leaving England to go on a lifetime trip to South America and says she will be back in October 2014...why anyone would want to complain about that I have no idea! .....2 of my friends have done a similar thing this year - one works freelance for the BBC, and so valued that they came back for a week to do a job; both say they will be back early in 2014.

As for guests, I can do not better than quote one of our esteemed members...

Thirty minutes ago, Dee the new host of POV, announced "Hi, my name is Dee. I'm your new host. I have worked on online communities for the BBC and Channel 4 for the last few years. I'm looking forward to getting to know this group better."

.....to which Peta has replied "Welcome to the board Dee! I thought I'd get in there first - but I'm sure everyone else will be along shortly. Have some tea. <cuppa>

Well, I guess I didn't know, right at the time when Caissier was telling me what a great idea it was that I'd created a board as a possible substitute for the one Hyper-Star was abusing, that he, Caissier, was making, or just about to make, one himself.

And I didn't know that you were the first person to join that board, or that you and Caissier invited twenty or so members of HS' board to join as well, but not me, despite the fact that I had been the one poster (and Science board mod) who had really stood up to HS, and had my karma count arsed about with as a consequence.

Those the kinds of things I don't actually know? Or perhaps I don't actually know that all that furtive behaviour didn't result in you ending up with a board that was any more popular than Hyper-Star's, only keeping everyone the BBC let down away from a real alternative? Oh wait, I do know that...

Enjoy your halo. It doesn't really matter where any of your friends from the BBC go, the PoV board is running on borrowed time, and BBC Online will be calling in the debt before long, as whether Peta wants to admit it or not, the moderation costs comes out of their budget, not PoV's.

But what do I actually know..?

<crikey> Joe K! how long are you going to gripe about the creation of this forum, which has been up and running for over two years now... <eh>

As for the POV boards que sera sera...why get your knickers in a twist over something that hasn't happened and may not happen...

So moving on, Tony Hall will be outlining his vision for the BBC on 8th October, six months after he became DG; much of the past few months has been taken up with the repercussions of the sins of the past and the unseemly buck-passing among the Trust and it's top managers. The general opinion seems to be that he will not plump for any significant changes such as adding BBC4 or, as was unsuccessfully tried before, 6 Music, but will probably make a few obvious statements about quality over quantity, differentiating BBC TV from other television channels.

Improving how the Beeb is perceived will be crucial for the man who from November becomes the new director of communications, Mr John Shield, who comes from the department of Works and Pensions, the place from which the department for Culture, Media and Sport is to get its new permanent secretary - a top civil servant - Sue Owen will report to Marla Miller, who did not get on with the last incumbent Jonathan Stephens...good things are circulating about Ms Owens, who likes going to the theatre and supports Everton...
