I'm late to these programmes as I see these are repeats I enjoyed this first in the series and will be listening in next week for more of his tales The multi-award winning American essayist, David Seadris, brings more of his wit and charm to BBC Radio 4 with a series of audience readings. Episode 1 (of 6): This week childhood discipline in the Sedaris household is recalled in "Attaboy" and the perils of agreeing without understanding in a foreign country are examined in "In The Waiting Room". http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01n0vhg |

I went to recordings of some of these at BBC Portland Place and posted about the experience at the time -they were always 'sold out'....at one Sunday morning recording I sat next to Hugh...who was most forthcoming about his partner in a very charming and humorous way....

I went to recordings of two shows (of four) he was doing over one weekend in January 2011, so they'll have been for Series 2 broadcast in June of that year...this is a repeat of Series 3 which went out last September , as you say becks...unfortunately I didn't see any invitations to recordings... I love the way he talks about his dysfunctional family, but always with deep affection and humour especially those concerning his father; as a child it seemed he was always the one accused of being the dysfunctional one...he told one of his father, Lou, who was always promising things on which he failed to deliver...this time is was a holiday home by the sea; they all got excited at the prospect and went on road trips to find one...with negative results! And a hilarious one about what not to do with a mouse - in a story called Nuit of the Living Dead... Edited by Mobson, Jul 29 2013, 12:05 PM.

I asked,Mobs, because I have known people go to BBC recordings not knowing a lot, sometimes, about who they were going to see but going with an open mind because the tickets were either free (?)or very reasonable prices. |

I think people seem to know what they're gonna get from David not just because of the mass turnout and the oversubscribing of his recordings, (one recording I couldn't get into because that happened due to first-come first-serve policy!)...but because of the buzz in the ante-room before being allowed into the auditorium where the recording takes place. ..all the recordings are usually free - I've never been charged to date...but who knows for the future.....
