I know you're a fan, Rum, so just to say that the Late Prom on R3 tonight (10:15) is doing yer man Zappa.
Also the UK premiere of a Philip Glass symphony.

I'll be tucked up in bed but tuning in.

I haven't actually heard this piece although I know of it. I was reading about his dealings with orchestras in 'The Real Frank Zappa Book' on holiday and he is pretty scathing about them, all of them. People would approach him wanting to do some piece or other but it always ended up with FZ out of pocket but he was always moaning about money.

I have heard bits of this before, Dunno, all a bit dated?

I don't know Zappa's stuff at all - but I really enjoyed it.
And I thought the Glass piece was pretty terrific as well.

(Maybe I'm just easily pleased!)

I didn't 'not enjoy it' but I found the whole commetary thing a bit tiresome, although the guy did a pretty good job of it. I think you had to be there. Zappa can be awful childish with his humour.

G Spot Tornedo, which wasn't billed, sounded a lot better with an orchestra than it did on 'Jazz from Hell' , which FZ did completely on some synth thing.

I was getting interupted by Mrs R who was packing for our trip north - I was getting the ' I wish I had time to sit about listening to the radio' look. That may have detracted a wee bit from my appreciation.

"200 Motels" on R3 on Sat at 10pm.
I'll be tucked up in bed and listening.

And I'll stay tuned because, straight after, Geoffrey Smith's jazz show is featuring Bill Evans.

Who is also - hooray! - the COTW on R3 next week.
