Just got back yesterday from a Norway Fiord cruise and the ship was fully booked for this week as well. Call me a Philistine but when you have seen one fiord, there is a huge resemblance to the others. Edited by Norm Deplume, Sep 22 2013, 05:00 PM.

...never been to Norway Norm...nor on a cruise ship...got near to the latter when I met some charming Norweigans whilst holidaying on the coast of Croatia...we hooked up and shared more than a few meals together from which came a genuine offer to go visit with them after we exchanged our personal details; as for a cruise, a few years back my husband designed the interior of a celebratory cruise ship and I was invited to sail on it's maiden voyage with him...for whatever reason I didn't go! Cruising is one thing that has never appealed to me.

We drove to Olso for the day, from Uddevalla, Sweden, about 30 years ago. I recall a big park with strange statues and not much else about Oslo. In Sweden, we stayed in a luxurious cabin in the woods and had the use of a boat (courtesy of SE Banken): we were/are zero-experienced sailors and got horribly lost out at sea. I can vouch for the fact that one fiord looks pretty much like another. It was quite scary but we got back somehow and didn't go out again. |

Having a scout around to see what's happening elsewhere, there seems to be a general lack of posting on these smaller forums; one board with a membership of under 35, and with some familiar names going back quite a few years, is closing down this week....others are discussing the lack of interest in posting. There are many reasons for this I suppose, firstly I blame the BBC! however, what with the onset of newer and faster ways of communication via the internet - facebook, twitter and email, seems we just don't have the time to randomly post away to our hearts content! Also it depends on life's circumstances and seasonal breaks. Certainly I've been more selective recently; posting relative to things that are my passion - the movies, theatre, food and cricket...oh and Mornington Crescent. One of the reasons for this is that daily news is generally so dire and depressing that I like to get away from it! Anyway I do hope this forum manages to survive - I won't give up posting here whilst it does... Edited by Mobson, Oct 14 2013, 12:01 PM.

I agree with Mobson many small-meduim sized forum seem rather quiet as of late. it s sad to see. I think daily post could should range between 150-230 daily as minimum for a small-medium sized forums, at worst 80-100 posts. when the post comes down to 30-50 daily becomes a concern . I remember the last days of Hyper T (or whatever it was called that forum would get to 1-10 posts per and hyper would get angry lol in the end he shut the forum down.it was all his fault which lead to the end of it. I remember someone posted the link to this forum on there. since then I have been lurking on here lol. back then this forum had more traffic and daily posts. hopefully things will pick up for you guys on here

Always the worry with older people. isn't it? Though not just older people. On another board I am on, one man joined in regularly and was a great contributor to a very small board. One day he wasn't there and he's never returned. (This is years ago now.) We had his name and email, and I tried to contact him, but there was never any reply. I just assume he was in an accident and killed. There had been no difficulties on the board and he was involved at the time in some discussion. I like to think someone in my family would bother to tell someone on a board if anything sudden happened to me. |

Yes .... Becky reappears! ..... ..... but I think she had / maybe still has stuff going on so who knows ......They say POV is under big threat ..... and there's an interesting link about messageboards being on the way out generally .... sadly. hard to 'monetise' they say and twitter is the coming thing. It's a shame. It's satisfying imo to collect thoughts and do a bit of possibly expressive writing and communicate with others. POV tends to often be rancorous though IME. Anybody else read 'From the Messageboard' in Private Eye .... very funny and a bit close for comfort sometimes. With mbs though I guess online bereavement is unavoidably, which can be painful imo, as it's possible to become really fond of someone despite the weirdness of the medium ..... imo .... imo .... imo |

Yes, Caiss, I am fond of people on here, even though we haven't met, funny really. |

Yes. When I first started with message boards people said you couldn't be sure that people were who they said they were, but it's never been a problem at all. Anyonw who I have met from them has been exactly what I expected. I don't do Twitter but it seems to me to trivialise everything and also is often quite nasty. Online bereavement happens, but I suspect sometimes that is because actual bereavement has happened. I remember on one board a man, who I think was using his real name, was in the midst of an interesting but amicable discussion for a few days and had been a regular member, and then suddenly we never heard from him again. I tried emailing him but never had a reply. I really do feel he must have met with an accident or died suddenly. There was no suggestion he was going away. |

Nice picture, Caiss. Puts me in mind of the wedding I attended at the weekend, at which I read a poem. As I explained to the assembled guests, it was a special day not only for the bride and groom, but also for me - never before have I been given carte blanche to say Pooh in public 20 times. Can anyone guess the poem? It has 5 verses, but we omitted the second. |

As it's a recreation of the original board (which I deleted in a huff after a Zeta mod suspended me from the help forums for jokingly paraphrasing a Starship Troopers line, regarding the way one of their servers always seemed to be the one to go offline), it never got quite the take-up in membership that the first did. Still, no need for it when this place is doing so swimmingly. Not much point for any of these boards, I guess... Alternative R4 boards |

It's a shame but apparently May-Cees has left us, although still posting elsewhere...so...
That's good to know Norm....
there is duckie still around in the food section

What umbrella?
however, what with the onset of newer and faster ways of communication via the internet - facebook, twitter and email, seems we just don't have the time to randomly post away to our hearts content!
- I won't give up posting here whilst it does...
....?
...We'd never leave you!
