Scary Stuff! Locked in negotiations, Republicans and Democratic leaders of the US Senate have struck a by-partisan deal to raise the US debt limit only a day before the deadline to end a partial government shutdown

Their bill must pass the House, where a small group of Republicans are expected to join Democrats to send the bill to President Barack Obama. The bill extends the federal borrowing limit until 7th February 2014, and funds the government to 15th January 2014, when they'll have to do it all again. :'(

It comes just a day before the deadline to raise the $16.7tn (£10.5tn) limit....how often does one get to type 'tn' after a monetary figure - only in the <usofa>

The Republicans are a disgrace to themselves, the voters, their country and democracy. They lost the election but have decided to try and re-fight it in this dangerous, selfish, stupid and unpatriotic way. I hope the American people remember at election time that the biggest threat to their country doesn't come from Islamic terrorists but from the so-called 'Tea Party' wing of the Republican Party.

I am sorry to say that I know it, but most do not. The Tea Party has some sort of appeal that I don't understand. Even some fairly normal people, who you would peg as Democrats or at least some kind of Independent, back them up.
The non-active military loathe the president, apparently, and so have picked the Tea Party. Probably because they can spell "Tea Party", if not much else.
I admit I am impressed to find that they are aware at all of anything besides the food in front of them. It could be a step up, if you think about it from that angle.

*Disclaimer
I am not disparaging any active duty military personnel in any way. Merely those frustrated service people who went through basic training and were conditioned to kill like rabid dogs and then never saw active combat in the first decade of their career. Those who then gave up and retired to civilian life because they knew they would never advance ranks anyway. Now they plague the rest of us with airy claims about their postings and veteran status, and fly flags with a little bit of Latin on them, and have patches sewn on their biker jackets with the same.

**Disclaimer 2
Civilian, active duty and retired duty US military personnel may not infringe on my right to free speech. My family fought to "protect it" in every war since the start of the century, so back off and let me spew. Thank you. No, I did not join the military complex, I have flat feet. Back off, I don't care. Again.
