As you can see from this topic, I am rather unoccupied at the moment, so would greatly enjoy an arena battle.

The wager will be 200 gold, the arena a forest landscape, hilly too. Provides decent ability to hide and run, but running all day won't win you the battle. 5 posts each, and good luck.

Char walked nervously through the forest, fingering the strings that held her gauntlet together. She had a bad feeling about walking alone in such a forest - actually, she usually had a bad feeling walking alone period - and the gauntlet, more than anything else, seemed to provide quite a bit of reassurance. A young girl, particularly one as high a ranking as she'd like to believe of herself, had quite a few enemies, and one of those could definitely decide that such an... isolated... forest would be the best place to make their assault.

Her blade lay fastened to her right side, within easy reach in case of an attack. If anybody decided to attack her right now, then she would be able to fight them off, right? Yes, yes she would. She was a Frelian noble. She was a Brandenburg Republican. Nobody would try to oppose her and succeed.

Intel stated that she would be coming into the forest. Art prepared an hour in advance. And there she was. It wouldn't be too hard to subdue her, he hoped. He scouted the area as well - making a rough map in his head. Added with some plans, he had the essential requirements for a spy's job - Intel, a map, and a plan. He was prepared... in a way. He didn't have that much combat experience, so he hoped that this was actually enough.

And the first step. She was nearby, and Art watched from the branch he was on top of. He pulled out one of the sticks he found in the wood and, placing it onto the branch, he stepped on it hard enough for a loud, stereotypical snap sound. He then watched for a reaction while he made his way up to another branch as silently as possible.

Char stopped midstep when she heard the branch snap, her courage fleeting like the wind through the leaves. Her very first thought was to run - to run, as fast as she could, in the exact opposite direction.

But no, what was she doing, jumping at shadows. There was every chance that it was just a wild animal, a bird feeding its young or perhaps a wolf hunting a rabbit. What would the others think if she had elected to run away at the most peaceful sound.

Wolves did live in forests, right? Anyway.

Feinting bravery, Char decided instead to investigate the cause of the noise. Making sure her gauntlet held as tightly as she could, Char proceeded to draw her sword, in the case the sound's source turned to be malevolent.

"H-Hey... who's there?"

Char did her best to put on the bravest voice she could, but she wasn't sure how well it came out. Hopefully it was nothing...

The silence greeted the girl, but not for long. As Art safely got onto his second branch, he took out one of his knives and threw it into a tree's trunk on the other side of the girl. Said tree was about ten feet away, but it did manage to make a hit and a low, but audible, thunk sound. He waited for her reaction, pulling out another knife.

Char let out a high pitched scream when she saw the glint of the blade in the corner of her eyes. Watching the blade stick out of the trunk of a tree, and while her courage lay vanished, the girl took the only logical course of action in this situation - to run in the exact opposite direction.

The noble hadn't run more than a couple of metres, though, when she decided to stop. If she tried to run... well she really wasn't too fit, was she, and her assailant would likely catch up with her somewhere along the line. By that time, she really wouldn't stand a chance, would she?Well, she had her sword and her gauntlet, and she was trained to fight. Why not use it, she thought, in order to reassure herself.

As carefully as she could, Char hid behind a tree. Hopefully, her opponent would think that she had kept on running, leaving an opening behind them. After a moment's consideration, she followed up her action by picking up a large stone and throwing it as far as her left hand would allow her; hopefully the sound would make her facade all the more convincing.

As the girl started running, Art followed by tree branch, quickly and nimbly. When she stopped and made her way to behind a tree, he jumped onto a branch above her. After considering, he unsheathed his larger dagger as opposed to his throwing knives, and was ready to drop down.

When he saw her pick up a stone and throw it, he quickly did so. He wouldn't be fooled by his own tricks, obviously. He landed on his feet, crouching, as soon as the stone fell. Just as quickly, he got up and had the dagger to her throat. Said dagger was pointed towards the trunk, giving her little room between Art and the dagger next to her neck.

"Lady Charlotte," said Art in a low voice. "You are under arrest."

The silence of the forest was pierced by yet another scream, when the man Char saw the iron of the knife point towards her vulnerable neck. She couldn't imagine how that man had managed to catch up to her, espescially if he was running through the canopy, but it didn't matter now. He had caught her, and apparently she was now under arrest.

After a moment's consideration, Char deduced that the man was trying to deceive her. While he seemed to know her full name, most people seemed to, and no officer of the law would operate in such a remote forest. Much more importantly, peacekeepers would seek an alternative to striking her with a knife from the trees. She'd have to make her escape, before this man had a chance to do whatever he wanted to.

Char took a quick moment to note that the man was missing his left arm. This would make an escape substantially easier for herself, she thought, before clenching her left fist and tightening her grip on her sword.

In a single swift movement, the myrmidon stepped to her own left, her neck moving before her feet did. She knew from her practice sessions that swinging out from one's body was much harder than swinging in, and it was in moving to the man's own right that she capitalised on this disadvantage.

Char, as quick as her body would allow, succeeded this maneuvre with two simple hits; one, a punch from her fist directly into the man's stomach, and the second, a horizontal slice with her sword, cutting along her assailant's side.

She prepared to run.

When he noticed her move her neck, Art readily sidestepped with her movement to the left, while coming closer. He was in front of her again, and his dagger now closer to her neck, practically touching it. His movement avoided the punch, and he was now inside the swing of the arm, and the blade would hit his arm if it wasn't raised, and the blade was still swinging. His face now in front of her's, Art simply said, "Don't try anything else. As I've said, you're under arrest, under the name of Astrid, the Queen of Renais and Protector of the Realm. If you cooperate, I assure you you will be released quickly and unharmed."

As he spoke, his stepped with his left leg towards the tree trunk, while he maneuvered the blade towards the left side of Charlotte's neck. His left leg didn't allow her to move to her right, and the blade would cut her if she were to move to her left. If she tried ducking out of there, he'd be ready to attack.

Char looked with fear at the blade, one again, shining along her skin. Arrest under the name of Astrid? Ha, what would the Queen want to do with her? Still, with the position the man was in, she really couuldn't move out of the way. Logically, a smart person would go quietly in this situation... but Char was scared enough to be devoid of logic.

Char quickly took note of the man's position, and the advantages and disadvantages that came with it. With only a single hand, which was currently at her neck, her foe's body was largely open. There was every chance that the moment she tried to move out, he'd go and slit her neck... but really, it looked as if he would try and kill her anyway.

Taking note of the man's single arm, an idea hesitantly surfaced within Char's head for escape, but it was a long shot. Still, she had no other choice, she thought to herself, while she steeled her mind for her next action.

"Sorry... I'm fairly sure that what you're going to do me is rather illegal anyway." Char said as smugly as she could. Fortunately, it seemed as if the adrenaline pumping through her body had eradicated her earlier fear. "But, I may as well, seeing how you've got a kni-"

Char's monologue was interrupted by her own action: a metal-coated fist pummeling directly into the assailant's stomach. The man, judging from her earlier actions, was most likely watching for another evasive manoeuvre, so a direct punch would hopefully catch him off guard. She also had to hope that the man had been too stunned to swing his knife, but that she definitely couldn't be assured of.

With her punch out, the young girl did her best to push the man away from her, hopefully knocking him to the ground. With that done, her next action would be to flee and lose him in the rest of the forest... if she was still alive by that point, of course.

Art felt the impact of the fist in his gut, and was soon pushed down. He rolled back with the push, getting into a kneeling position while dropping his dagger. Luckily, the blow hadn't hit anything important, and if it had, he didn't feel it. He got up and watched the girl run, then put a cigarette in his mouth and lit it. There wasn't anything to worry about. He came prepared.

He calmly started walking the other way, with no intentions to follow. She'd get lost in the forest if she continued to run like that. It was a big forest, after all, and he'd go after her again after a few minutes. He checked the skies, seeing rain clouds. He approximated the time to be about an hour before sundown as he took his dagger. If he was fast enough, he'd confuse her until the rain started and night fell. First thing to do, however, was to circle around her. Running in a straight line would be hard for her, since the trees grew close together. It was also likely she'd trip over roots as she did so, and lose her bearing. It'd take her a while to try to find the exit, and he'd catch up by then.

"Word of advice from me to you," Art thought, as he started his trek. "Street rats and nobles have different advantages. You can do better in a fight, but I can do better in speed and stealth. I'll see you soon."
