![]() The community room was built for the students to have an escape from their plain rooms. It has many chairs, games, a large screen television, tables and traditional items found in a joint community establishment. |

Sarah opened the door to a large room, filled with chairs and a large tv. It seemed like no one else was in there, so she took it upon herself to turn on the tv, and sit in a chair that she pulled up to be only about two feet away from the screen. She was in awe, this being the first time she'd seen a large screen tv. Her uncle just had an old box television, because he always blew money on gambling. She stared at the television, entranced, even though the show that was on was just a boring reality show, she couldn't get over the size of the screen. |

With Shinbu's help Maya had found her way back to the dorms. After a quick peek in the room and seeing Sarah wasn't there Maya made her way to the community area. It wasn't bad as setups go. With a little set up, that television could do well as a gaming station. She plopped down on the sofa rather loudly and laid her arms out against the back of the chair. "You know, it is an interesting place we have found ourselves." |

Sarah turned around to see Maya. "It is definitely interesting. Look at the size of this tv... I've never seen one this big!" A childish shine came into her eyes as she goes to sit in a chair near Maya. "So, did you go for a walk? How was it?" She smiled kindly at Maya. "Are the other students nice? I don't know much about them." |

"They are weird." It was the best answer Maya could come up with. After talking to ninja who refused to show anyone her face, the musclebound guy who wanted to put on a show and the samurai who Maya was still convinced was having a fling with the ninja, it was odd. "Frankly, this whole place is weird. And might be attacked soon by a giant butterfly. While I was out I found a giant cocoon out on the forest." She was oddly calm considering she was talking about something potentially horrible happening in the foreseeable future. |

Sarah looks a little concerned about the doom. "A giant cocoon? Maybe the butterfly will be docile. I don't know of many evil butterflies." She tried to ensure herself that it would be ok. "Giant though... is there more to magic and myths than I've been lead to believe? I kinda wanna see it... Can we go check it out? I know you just got back, so I wouldn't be offended if you didn't want to." She nervously rubbed her arm as she asked Maya to show her this strange cocoon. She knew it was getting late, but deep inside, she was excited, and probably wouldn't be able to sleep for quite a while. |

"Um.." Maya scratched her head a little awkwardly as she searched for the right words to explain. "I don't think so. I kinda.. have no idea where it is. I got lost and just stumbled across it. Then Big Show, Strider and Masa showed up and we just kind of came back." It wasn't much of an explanation at all and Maya knew it. |

Sarah's face showed how lost she was at the explanation. "O-oh. I see, that's ok. Well, thank you anyway." She turned her attention back to the tv, just realizing what was actually on, and made a face of disgust. "Ew. Reality shows... Uncle Joe used to always watch these... and he knew I didn't like them." She pursed her lips and went to change the channel. "Is there anything you'd like to watch Maya?" She smiled at her room mate, hoping that this friendship could continue to grow. |

"I don't know, I haven't seen japanese television enough to know what is on." Maya didn't bother even trying to find something better to watch. She was never big on watching television anyway. |

Sarah just flicked the channels til something watchable was on. "Ok. I just thought I'd ask." She went back to sit down. "So is there anything you'd like to talk about? Like maybe why you're here?" She began to rub her arm nervously again. It was a thing she had done when she was little, whenever she got scared, or anxious. The habit never died, even though her sense of feeling did. |

"Everyone keeps asking me that today. Do I look like I shouldn't be here or something?" maya asked in turn, as much to herself thinking there might actually be a reason beyond simple curiosity that she had been asked that question like 4 times today. |

"No, it's not that. I was just wondering... This is a school for gifted students, so.. it's kind of like prisoners swapping stories of what they did to get caught." She didn't think that analogy was strange, thanks to seven years of living with a scum bag. She made a strange face, pursing her lips, and looking down. "I'll tell you a little about myself and why I'm here, if you'd like. I'm bad at conversation, so this is my best idea..." |

"That sounds nice. Fact is I'm not here to learn to use powers, just to figure out what to do with the magic curse now that it is there." Maya stretched out so that she could get in a more relaxing position to hear about Sarah's past. |

Sarah nodded, feeling a bit the same way. "Well, I lost my parents and sister when I was 10. I was so alone, I thought I had no one else, but it turned out I had an uncle. His name was Joe, and he wasn't nice. It didn't take me long to know why I had never heard of him before. Well, he liked gambling... and he knew of an underground fighting ring. They had children fight each other, some kids liked it, others, like me hated it. I would never throw a punch, so my uncle got mad. He took me to his friend who was a shaman, who cursed me with a heightened defense, and an inability to feel anything." She stopped for a moment, looking at Maya, and couldn't bring herself to mistrust her. "He said he put my life-force into my headband," She continued, pointing at her headband. "and that I could only feel pain if it was hit. My uncle decided to take it from me, and flick it when I disobeyed him. So I began winning matches. He never let me wear it, he just kept it on his arm..." She takes a sigh, "Well he left one day, and he locked my headband in a safe, because if it's too far from me, I lose all my strength. I decided to run away. I broke the lock with a crowbar, and ran until I was caught by the police. Then they sent me here. I hope to learn what I can do with this curse, if any good can really be had from it." She glanced at Maya and stated, "I hope that wasn't too whiny... I always feel like a baby when I talk about that." |

"It isn't whiny" Maya replied stone faced. "In fact, you are probably the only one I have met in this place who understands that the powers people like us have are burdens." Maya was usually a little playful but here she was completely genuine and serious. "I guess you want to hear my story then?" |
