Well, hard work breeds better more resiliant people and struggle brings strength and virtue.
But now that life is so easy, and the most scary thing we can think about is are we going to pass our math test or not, we have go back to our baser, more selfish and greedy instincts. If you have everything at your finger tips, why strain yourself with being a good person?
I think thats a bit of a cop out answer. Most people aren't deliberately assholes, and people can usually tell if they're doing the wrong thing.

I don't believe that "more" people are becoming assholes, just that people have always been assholes in the eyes of other people, and people will always be assholes, it's all relative. People thought Leonardo da Vinci was an asshole for the experiments he ran, and for the way he wrote. People thought that the crusaders were assholes. People thought that Jesus was an asshole. The world thinks that Hitler was an asshole. People think that the south park guys are assholes. Yes, these are all big name people, but the point I'm trying to make is that what makes someone an "asshole" is relative to your personal beliefs and opinions. You make think someone is an asshole, where as other people may believe that person is a revolutionary, or a comedian, or doing what they believe is right. You guys should watch the movie "no country for old men". The moral of that movie is that the world is, and always has been a bad, rough place, but as you get older and go through different stages in life you get different perspectives on life and the world feels like it's falling apart around you, when in reality not that much has changed
Read the damn book. >.> Though the movie was awesome.

Because it helps make up for their small penises. No really, that's probably the answer, lack of self confidence.

Why is there annoyance in your post? I mentioned the movie because I doubt most people would read the book, and like you said the movie was awesome

Yeah, I agree that asshole-ness is in the eye of the beholder. If anything, general asshole-ness has decreased comepared to when we you know, had a slave trade. And remember the Ku Klux Klan, they were on a different level to the assholes of today. Ultimately, not everyone will ever like everyone else, and those you don't like you may consider to be assholes. In reality it is not down to them, its just down to our view of the world.

As usual I must disagree with what Poo said. I'm pretty sure have always been assholes in the world and always will be. This is not a new phenomenon nor is there any reason to believe it happens more often now than in the past. People have a tendency to glorify the past, even when it was a past they weren't around to experience.

As for why people are assholes. I guess it comes down to people simply not considering or not caring about the feelings of others. It can be very easy for some to get wrapped up in themselves and simply not think about other people. Also, people aren't perfect. They make mistakes at times and sometimes those mistakes make them seem like assholes, even if they're generally an alright person most of the time.
