The 5th Division's barracks was less an actual barracks and more of an estate. It was laid out in such a way where nearly ever outside corridor led into a plaza and garden, many outfitted with small koi ponds or hell butterfly sanctuaries - the Captain had a soft spot for those sort of things. It offered room to those Academy teachers to walk around with their students if they ever wanted to get away from the actual Shinigami Academy, and it also offered a great place to simply break away from the world and meditate on just about anything and everything - if anything could be said, it was that the 5th Division's barracks was peaceful... Nestled deep within the center of the actual barracks HQ though were the offices of the 5th Division's Captain and Lieutenant - with all the room and board for the other division members spread out across several hallways... ____________________________________________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Captain Soranamida appear as lackadaisically as ever, his mind was consumed by the taunting thoughts of how little he might actually care for the Soul Society at this point... With little regard to what actually might be happening within his own division's barracks, he walked through the network of hallways and corridors, gardens, generally peaceful areas in complete inner turmoil, finding way to his own office... |

An old man, much older than Atsuko, was sitting at a coy pond with his legs crossed. He seemed to be in a tranquil state. He looked up as Soranamida approached his location. "Well hello there young man." The man dipped his hand into the river and swirled it around, exciting the coy withing the pond. The man was smiling. "Please join me. I am a lonely old quincy, I wish only to enjoy life while I still have it. Please, come sit next to me." |

Seirei stopped mid stride, as he heard the mysterious voice - it wasn't anyone from his division, and for that matter, it's reitsu was certainly different... His eyes quickly darted to the source, catching glimpse of the old man sitting by the the small pond; he didn't immediately appear to be a threat, but he did introduce himself as a quincy... Sonranamida hesitated a moment, but sure enough he still found himself walking over to the water's edge and taking seat beside the old man. "You are well aware of what is going on I presume? And how I should kill you outright..." he said with such a even and straight face that it was hard to tell if it was a threat, a statement, or simply his own way of inquiring what was happening... |

The man new broke his stare. His eyes were still fixed on the pond. The way the fished danced and went about their business, it was so serene. "Yes yes. And you are Captain Soranamidam of Division 5, the man I am assigned to kill. But this is such a nice pond, I wish to hold our little war for just a bit." Silence fell for a bit. The old man finally looked up. "Isn't it odd, the most beautiful things, only appear in times of war. Why do you think that happens?" |

"Those who think that way just never stop to appreciate the beauty in simplicity - even the most insignificant of events can carry weight enough to be more beautiful than that of a lovely woman or any other measure," he said rather plainly. "Many simply walk through life blind - moving through the motions; and it was only this passing day that I began to question - What motions, what paces? What life must be determined by any tradition or rule if his heart is not in it?..." Seirei stopped and looked away from both the old man and the pond; instead his gaze turned backwards over his shoulder - cast out beyond the garden, and even the walls, as if he were simply staring at the Seireitei as a whole... The old man pulled himself to his feet. It was an obvious struggle. His withered bones continued to make his life more difficult. "I guess that it is time for us to fight. I will end this quickly then. As a token of my gratitude for not attacking me while I was admiring beauty, you may attack first and I shall defend. Go on." He stood there with his arms at his side but palms forward. |
