Basically as the title says, My computer crapped out on me and I'm building a new one from the ground up. I was looking for some techie's to evaluate my choices and let me know if there are any blaring problems with any of the hardware, and how they think it would run current games such as BF3 and Skyrim Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197 Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157265 Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115224 OR, based on advice from other sources, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087 OR, Based on advice from other sources, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 Graphics Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130593 With a second one to be picked up with Christmas money RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173 HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152245 Disk Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151232 Windows 7 Home Premium This is actually my first computer I've built myself, and I'd much appreciate you telling me if I have screwed up or omitted any parts that I'll need. I appreciate any help and advice. Edited by Damon, Nov 15 2011, 06:51 PM.

updated and edited, sorry about that. I've also been advised to invest in additional heatsinks, and was wondering if that was wise at the moment. If anything, I'd buy an additional fan for my processor like this one Coolermaster internal fan thingy Edited by Damon, Nov 15 2011, 06:55 PM.

MOBO: Don't know much, looks nice to me. Make sure to check compatibilities of this against EVERYTHING ELSE. Also, make sure that it will work with the case you're buying. CASE: Not much to say here, looks like it has decent cooling in it, but check reviews. Processor: The i7 is better, but more expensive. The little stats on it don't look like much but will make a difference. It /does/ have a smaller clock speed, but once it flips its boost switch it'll outperform the i5 and it has a larger cache/supports hyperthreading. It's better. Power supply: check to make sure it has all the connections you'll need for your in-case fans, as well as cd/hard drives or other peripherals. Also double check to see that your wattage overshoots your requirements by ~50W (I think that's the rule of thumb) Graphics Card: Not much to say here, looks good. A second one might be redundant. RAM: 8Gb, looks good. Make sure it'll fit into your MOBO ((I believe kingston has a tool that will match RAM to your MOBO)) HDD: 2TB, that's big. Your read/write speeds may be slow due to that. Consider 2 1TB HDDs instead. (really a matter of preference, but with that much memory I like to have 1 for files, and 1 for back-ups) Disk Drive: Will you need the blu ray aspect? you pay extra for that. Looks good, though. OS: Spring for Pro, you're already dropping $$ on this, you'll want the extra functionality/tools if something borks on your software. Overall: Looking good, should run your games without much of a hitch. Have fun. Edited by Lithas, Nov 15 2011, 07:22 PM.

I liek da blurayz... I might be downgrading to a 1TB hard drive anyway, without torrenting, which is a rule I'm now enforcing on my PC, I won't fill it up nearly as quickly. |

Then you just un-break it! Back-ups are your friend. |

Okay, moving on, I have a new question, if I plug this mug http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 into this mofo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157265 I can haz overclock? I was looking for advice on whether or not this board/cpu would support overclocking, how much power I could get out of it, and if it is worth it to overclock. |
