Nathanial sat down, and looked at his subordinate. He wasn't entirely used to being questioned, but it was refreshing. "You are right, my good man. Valdis and her men are a risky ally, and could prove to be a liability, but for now, I must use them. I have always intended to diversify my allies, and dig my roots deep below Peralas until I can influence the entire realm for the better. What I do know is this, these people I am trying to save aren't fools, and they will know they cannot simply return to the lives they once led. Even if they would not help me out of gratitude, I expect I can gain allies in them out of their sheer desperation." "Even if they should refuse me, and go free in exile, it will be better for the realm. The people will question their guilt as long as long as they are alive. If they are executed, they will accept the lies they have been fed. The rewards for this act are not just the possibility of new allies, but the act itself will make our enemies look weak, and empower others to follow." "Valdis, should she prove more reliable in the coming days, will be an important ally as well, you must not write off someone just because they partake in deeds that you do not call 'honorable'. I will be searching for other allies even as I try find out what I can about the execution. But remember, we must do this. Tyranny acts as a snowball falling down a mountain side. It will become too great to stop if we do not do all that we can, as fast as possible." |

Folke sat quietly for a moment before rising and dropping to his knee. "Forgive me, milord, if I have trespassed you in any way. Know that I will always remain loyal unto you and will always remain by your side, so long as life-blood flows in my veins and I am able to move with you. Should you need anything, send me as your right hand, milord, for I believe that you have exactly what it takes to do all that you wish to do. I believe in your choices of contacts, sir, and therefore any friend of yours will be a friend of mine as well." Then, quickly, he rose and nodded. "May I take my leave, milord? I would see fit that I am ready on the morrow for our investigations." |

"You're loyalty has never come into question. You have served me valiantly and without fault, and yes, you may. I'll be either here or in the tavern below, seeking information." Nathanial said, smiling at his servant. He relaxed in his chair at the moment, allowing Folke to leave and himself to ponder his options. He'd more like than not go down to the tavern a few minutes after Folke would leave. |

Folke departed quietly. As Nathanial sat and pondered, he listened for any sounds of life in the inn. It seemed that there was little to none. Somewhere nearby, he heard the sound of a loud and deep snore - and no wonder. It was late at night and the rain was pouring and after the somber reckoning in The High Temple of St. Ambriel's earlier, everyone had been ready to just end the day by a warm hearth surrounded by those who mattered to them. The air was thick with a sense that things were going to change, and quickly. Nathanial knew that there could be a chance that someone might still be nursing a drink in the tavern below, but would they be of any use if there was? He could either sleep or try his luck, it seemed. |

Nathanialhad not realized how late it was. He decided any rest he could get would be more important than the scraps of information he could get tonight. He set his effects aside and went to bed. |

The morning light rose and hazily entered Nathanial's room. A few moments after Nathanial had made his personal preparations for the day, there was a light knock at the door. When Nathanial opened it, he was met by Folke, who seemed to be in a fairly good mood. "A day's greetings, milord. It seems that the tavern below is bustling with activity. I do not think it difficult to find information today. I have abstained from doing such myself due to not quite knowing what exactly you seek, but I will help as best I can when you say that we should depart." |

Nathanial clapped Folke on the arm. "I like your vigor, my friend. We shall begin by gathering all of the information that is told to the public, the criers and the like. Then we seek the rumors of the town and its underbelly. Finally, we shall see if we can eavesdrop on those privy to the details of the exectution. Come nightfall, we visit the Black Dog and make sense of our findings with Vardis." Nathanial stepped to his footlocker, and donned his dagger, and handed his sword in its scabbard to Folke. "You will be by my side, and carry my blade. I will arouse less suspicion if I do not wear my blade. I do not expect much resistance anyway, but best we have a weapon for each of us should the need arise. These are delicate times, and we must be prepared for unexpected turns. Do not take IvoryEdge lightly. She was my Father's before me, and you are the only man to touch her since my uncle passed her down to me. I lend you this blade to wield as my own Hand." |
