![]() Character Sheet - IONA - ![]() Stat: Skill: Name: Iona Aliases: None Gender: Female Age: 12 Role: Servant House: Seton Appearance: If one were to enter the servant's quarters of the Seton household at midday, they would most likely observe a great deal of activity. Several laundresses would be bustling back and forth, carrying large bundles of dirty linens. Several other women might be folding clean linens around a table, while a few more servants sat on the floor with needles and thread, mending clothing. Throughout the room is constant chitchat about the weather, the condition of the Lord Seton and his family, and other forms of gossip. However, through all of the activity, it is highly unlikely that one would notice the small girl sitting in the corner of the room. She is also mending various garments, her delicate fingers are sewing intricate patterns into the hem of a skirt. However, her big, brown, doe-eyes are not trained on her work; they are mostly scanning the room, silently absorbing the events that unfold before them. She is a fairly lovely child, but has no real striking physical features, making her blend into the room. As she tucks her long, auburn hair behind one of her ears, they perk up; one of the female servants across the room just said something that seems to be very useful information. The girl leans forward slightly and lowers her eyes back to her work, yet focuses intently on the words coming out of the servant's mouth. "Oh yes," the woman says in a hushed but excited voice, "Merida told me yesterday! There are going to be an extra seat at the Master's table in a few weeks. No, I don't know who he is, but I suspect he is another suitor for his..." The woman's voice trails off as she exits the room with another servant. The girl then focuses intently on her stitching, adding a few extraneous yet meaningful patterns into the fabric. She then stands quietly and inconspicuously, straightening her plain, olive-colored dress. She gathers her sewing materials and garments and ghosts her way to the door without attracting any attention. It is only when she steps outside of the room, walks down the corridor, down a flight of stairs, into the kitchen, and up to a woman carrying a platter of food that she is noticed. She exchanges a quick glance with the other woman, an older servant who is quite taller than she is. The girl holds out the skirt, silently offering to switch it for the platter. "Thank you, Iona," says the woman warmly as she bends down and makes the exchange. The woman straightens up and inspects the skirt; a grin slowly spreads across her face as she further examines the patterns on the hem. The woman briskly walks away in the same direction Iona came from, and Iona places the platter on a table. She then lifts up a piece of bread on the platter, and finds a shiny, bronze coin underneath it. Smiling, Iona stashes the coin away in her dress, and returns to her duties. Personality: Iona is quiet, attentive, and very unnoticeable. Her inconspicuousness partly due to her small stature, and partly due to her nearly perpetual silence. Although she may appear shy or aloof, she is actually quite outgoing and sociable around those who really know her. However, for the most part, her lips are sealed, and her eyes and ears are trained on everything around her. Iona is fixated by people: by their movements, their mannerisms, their speech, and especially by their secrets. She serves her household dutifully, although she works for far more individuals than just Lord Seton. Her particular set of skills allow her to be a contributing member of the secret network of spies in the household. She delivers messages, eavesdrops on conversations, and sometimes receives small rewards, such as an extra crust of bread or a bronze coin. More importantly, she receives joy and satisfaction knowing that she is important and appreciated in her house. History: Iona was not always so silent. In fact, as an infant she constantly giggled, cooed, and was generally a bouncing, noisy baby. Her mother, a bright, beautiful young woman of twenty, was a handmaiden to one of Lord Seton's daughters. Her name was Ayleth, and she possessed many of the same features as her daughter: beautiful, soft brown eyes, long auburn hair, and in inquisitive spirit. Iona's father, Rowan, was one of the house guards. He was a very lively, dashing young man of twenty three. He and Iona's mother had met when they were both child servants in the Seton house, and were quickly the best of friends. As Rowan and Ayleth grew up, they spent nearly all of their free time together; when they were children, they would play tag and hide-and-seek, and when they were young adults, Rowan would sing charming ballads and poems to Ayleth. They were married at ages nineteen and twenty-two, and soon after, Ayleth gave birth to her first child, Iona. Rowan was a very affable, likable man. He was very entertaining; he loved to sing and laugh and drink and be merry. His gregarious personality helped him become good friends with nearly all of the servants and guards in the household. Having so many good allies and sources of information, he was usually well informed about most of the house's affairs and happenings. Naturally, he became very well integrated into the secret chain of messengers that resided in the Seton house. His wife disapproved of his secretive activities, but she still loved him, and trusted in his ability to stay silent when he needed to. There was really only one man that disliked Rowan. In fact, Cassius (who was one of Rowan's fellow guards) despised Rowan; he was not only jealous of his popularity and good looks, but also of his beautiful wife. One night, several of the servants and guards were making merry out by the stables; there was jovial singing (led by Rowan, of course), dancing, and a lot of wine. Rowan was a good sized man, and could normally hold his wine very well. However, this night, something was off... Maybe he drank a little bit too much, or maybe Cassius slipped something into his drink... Either way, Rowan became far more intoxicated than he intended to. He became very loud and talkative, and began to spew out words that were not intended for most ears. The singing and laughter grew silent, and all eyes were on Rowan. Secrets, mixed with occasional vomit, cascaded from Rowan's mouth. Some of the servants were shocked, others appalled. Ayleth, who witness the whole event, was speechless and terrified. Eventually Rowan lost consciousness and collapsed; Cassius, as well as a few other guards, dragged him away. The next morning, Lord Seton gathered all of the working men and women in the household in the main hall. There, everyone (including a distraught Ayleth and her three-year-old, babbling daughter) watched in disgust and pity as Rowan was restrained and his tongue was cut off. The moment she heard her father's screams, Iona became silent. Rowan was allowed to live the remainder of his life as a stable worker, rather than a guard. However, he was no longer the same man. He drank heavily, and distanced himself from many of his friends and loved ones, including his own wife and child. When Iona was about six years old, Rowan, a shell of his former self, hung himself in the stables. Ayleth was devastated, and her distress forced her to take a leave from her duties. Her body and soul were racked with pain, and she soon became very ill. Ayleth's illness took her shortly after her husband, leaving one tiny, mute girl all on her own. Thankfully, not all of Rowan's former allies had completely abandoned him. One of Rowan's dearest friends from the guard, Josef, took Iona under his wing shortly after her mother passed away. Iona was already well accustomed to her "Uncle Jo", as she had spent her toddler years playing with him. Josef was a tall, muscular man with dark eyes, dark hair, and a dark, serious look that seemed perpetually etched into his face. Despite his initial appearance, he had a kind and loving heart, and when he interacted and played with Iona, the faintest trace of a smile would cross his lips. Although she possessed an entirely different set of skills from her father, Iona became integrated into the spy network of the Seton household around age nine or ten.

Note: Where generally a character is considered Size 5 as an adult, and this would make your character have 7 health, you are a child. Therefore, your size is one less and your health drops one point. | ||||||||||||||||||||

I guess I was just trying to paint a broader picture of her than what a normal, five-sentence descriptive paragraph could give me. Thanks!
