The D.R.E.A.D. office was nowhere near as sinister looking as one might imagine. The floor was a dark marble, the trimming a mahogany-colored wood that was not actually mahogany at all. The walls were colored a black-blue color (far more black than blue) equaling out in a sort of grayish tone. Above, simple lighting ribbed in slim bands across an unadorned ceiling. Through the door there was a chair, and a desk, and another chair before a pair of hospital-esque double doors leading into the sanctuary that was the actual department. Yuu, otherwise known as Akai, was sitting at the desk. He had just returned from a nice, solitary walk with his umbrella. He had departed on said walk after realizing that no one was in the Captain's Office, but he had not had any truly pressing (or even moderately interesting) information to divulge and so decided to retire to his own office post-walk. It seemed there was not much to do this day - the few people in his subdivision had their work cut out for them. However, there rarely if ever seemed to be anything beyond the double doors besides a number of half-finished, theoretically-stable machines that were supposed to do this or that but really did nothing at all except collect dust and be worked on intermittently. So, Akai leaned back in his comfy office chair and cracked open his copy of Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology by Neil Postman to get some reading in before anyone came and disturbed him. |

Time to act again

Acting like he owned the place (which technically he did), Masaki stormed into the Office and looked at Yuu. "Officer Himura!" He said clapping his hands. "I hope you have updates to give me." Masaki smiled. "If not, I will have to ask you to go on a... Personal, mission." he said with a smile. |

Yuu grumbled and snapped his book shut, rising from his reclined position with a drop of his legs and a slight hop. He planted the book down on his desk before looking up and staring directly at the captain. It figured that, just as soon as he was getting comfortable, someone would seek him out. What was worse was that it was someone who could force him to do things. If this had been a subordinate, he would have hollered at them and smacked them with his umbrella for good measure - but it was his superior, and so he had to act cordially. Yuu gave a slight, rigid bow. "Masaki, always a pleasure... I am sorry but, as far as updates go, it seems D.R.E.A.D. is just trudging along as per usual. We are currently attempting to make a dimensional warping device that might at some point be able to shift something as small as an atom from one dimension to another for a short period of time but... er, well, it isn't done yet. So, I suppose, if you are in need of me, I can do as you wish." |

Anya, who had followed Masaki all the way here, stood silently behind him. She didn't personally feel very comfortable here, especially because of how the research sounded, but she, like always, said nothing. That wasn't her job and it wasn't her specialty. She was only here to make sure her captain didn't do anything questionable. So, she remained motionless and quiet, listening to the exchange. |

Yuu saw the shape of Anya behind the door before she entered. It was just like her to come bounding after Masaki like a lap dog. That was something he found irritating. The two always seemed to be involved with each other, always seemed to be around each other (namely Anya following Masaki), but nothing ever happened. He was close to telling them to both just shit or get off the pot, but he curbed his tongue and bowed as Anya entered - another curt, cut-back bow that seemed more mechanical and involuntary than anything. He had always gotten the feeling that Anya did not approve of D.R.E.A.D. but that didn't matter. His studies were sanctioned. "Hello Anya." |

"Oh well Yuu, that sounds incredibly slow..." Masaki said a bit disappointed. "I want to believe you started your research by studying already working portals that moves us from one place to another, like the Senkaimons we made, in some cases me personally, several researches and studies on,right?" Indeed, there was already a Dimensional Traveling System on the world, more or less, but Yuu's job was to find a way to make it smaller, portable and, if possible, able to send them to new, unexplored places. The Captain thought that making a prototype to go to, at least, teh Human World, shouldn't take them so long. |

Anya nodded to Yuu, a slight twitch in her jaw. She was always under the impression he didn't think well of her... perhaps he was just like that. Clearly, her company was not needed. "I'm going back," she informed them, feeling her frustration fade into uncaring, nodded at Yuu again, and backed away to return to the office... perhaps she should put it back in order...

Yuu turned to Masaki as Anya decided to bow out. "It is incredibly slow, but we are working on principles that are difficult to study. It is not every day that we can go out on a field study and, when we can, it is only on the rarest of days we run into any Gillians. When that happens, we necessitate an attack force to probe them and provoke them so that we can research from afar. And, only in the smallest instances, does the attack force's provocation actually lead to their use of Negacion. To put it simply, I have yet to see Negacion in action since I was first brought here. The odds are quite small. To make matters worse, few of my workers are actually jumping at the chance to go and potentially risk their lives out there. Thus, with such small numbers of workers and such a small percentage of a chance of seeing what we need to see, we don't make much progress. That could, however, be changed... But I digress. You have come to ask of me a favor, so, have at it." Yuu was growing increasingly impatient of the criticisms he received on his research. He couldn't, by any means, do everything by the book and this often led him into situations that were potentially fatal. Furthermore, he hated being an errand boy, but it wasn't like he really had a choice. Not like much was going on in D.R.E.A.D. anyway. He waited for Masaki to tell him what he wanted. |
